VIRB Edit 2.1.1 is available for download at www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=6591.

We added music support (MP3), as well as g-Force and power overlays.

We've fixed the map display issue, and improved the quality of the exported video.

This release is available in 14 different languages.

The video with the map was not posted by anyone from Garmin. I am sorry this lead to confusion.

VIRB Edit 2.2 will allow you to export an outline of your track.

How will the track overlay work when putting together multiple clips from the same ride?

Also, any plans to be able to synchronize with other Edge data from a ride (distance, ride time)?

    .

I'm back to VIRB Edit 2.0 as it supports non-VIRB video import, export and upload.

I tried with the VIRB Edit 2.0 but does not work when I add the gpx from edge 800 :(

We don't try to prevent VIRB Edit to work with non-VIRB videos. However, VIRB Edit is support software for the Garmin VIRB action camera, if it works with other footage that's great but it's not something we actively try to make work at the moment. I realize that this is something that would make lives a lot easier for people if we supported all. We will look into this for a future release.

VIRB Edit doesn't support any devices specifically at the moment, it supports importing GPX and FIT tracks. So it should work with tracks from the Edge 800. Can you post a gpx file from your Edge? What does not work?

The track overlay should display the combined track of all clips.

Distance and ride time is not in 2.2, but it's on the road-map.

You can use the current version of VIRB Edit - The Edge is not recognized as an import device for VIRB Edit, you just copy the gpx/fit files manually off the Edge - or export them from Garmin Connect if already uploaded, and then attach them to the video in VIRB Edit.

I can tell you what didn't work for me. My first mountain bike ride with my new VIRB Elite, it restarted 15 minutes in, losing the first 15 minutes of video, and then froze at the end of the now first clip, so 26:53 later. I noticed that almost immediately and restarted by mashing down the power button until it restarted. After that, the VIRB worked to the end, although that ride it never saw my HRM or the Tempe, even though I turned those on on the VIRB. Anyway, my Edge 800 worked flawlessly (as usual) for the entire ride, so when I got back I used VIRB Edit to add the .fit file to the video. But it didn't align right; VIRB Edit assumed the .fit and the clip started at the same time, so the information was 15 minutes out of alignment until I discovered how to align them by hand. (This, by the way, is with the Mac version 2.1 of VIRB Edit, but I assume this works the same in the Windows version?) I know nothing about MPEG-4 format, but isn't there time information in the clip that could be used to align with the .fit track? The rest of the clips had GPS data from the Elite itself, and even though that didn't include HR, I didn't bother to replace it with the data from the Edge. (The HRM and Tempe, of course, were working properly.) The next ride I took with the VIRB, on a road bike, I lost six minutes of video at the beginning and about 9 minutes in the middle. Same problem, the .fit from the Edge and the video had to be aligned by hand.

    GPS overlay

I went back to get that video, and you are correct. my apology. I think I got that from this.
"The Garmin VIRB Elite will also offer built-in GPS with live onscreen maps and show data like heart rate on the footage, all things that GoPro can’t do," says Squire. He adds, "This is the new standard in top-shelf action cameras."

and this from the Virb edit page:
Add GPS and Performance Data to Your Video

If you collect GPS data with VIRB Elite or a compatible Garmin device, VIRB Edit can use that data to create an overlay that indicates speed, elevation and G-force in sync with your video. You can also add metrics, such as heart rate and cadence, from compatible devices by connecting to your VIRB via ANT+Tm wireless technology. This display adds meaningful context and helps reveal the true effort, heart-pounding suspense and thrill of each moment.

Realizing now that the first one is probably not owned by Garmin.

    Hi Falagar,
You mentioned that the map display problem is solved already in 2.1.1. I have 2.2.5 of Virb Edit but I still can't see the small Map in the Video which is displayed in the preview.
Could you please explain how it should work?
    Thanks and kr

I am not sure we are talking about the same thing.

Are you talking about the map being exported in the final video? That we currently cannot do.

If you are indeed talking about the map not being displayed during playback, please provide a screenshot.
