VIRB Edit 2.1.1 is available for download at www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=6591.

We added music support (MP3), as well as g-Force and power overlays.

We've fixed the map display issue, and improved the quality of the exported video.

This release is available in 14 different languages.

If you do the playback in VIRB Edit, it can look like this:
    http://youtu.be/031ECnN_mhU
This is a screen capture of an older version of VIRB Edit. The VIRB Edit logo has gone in newer versions. Also I have resized and moved the map to the right.

BUT: first you need to have a track (.gpx or .fit) attached to your video (otherwise there is no way to know what map to display)
Second you need an internet connection as the map displayed is either Bing or Google and taken live from the internet.

Just to reiterate, because the video above has caused some confusion:

VIRB Edit itself does not and has never supported embedding the map into the exported/uploaded video. The video above was not created by VIRB Edit.

We don't have a license to embed the map, but we are hoping to make something like this happen in the future using different map providers.

I've placed a warning in the video description on YouTube that this is a screen capture.
  • Well its a year + later and finally newest Virb Edit is all working to a professional level. Kudos to Garmin to hanging in there.

    Here's a 1 hour video that combines:
    1) Virb snow, ice, mud ride - handlebar mount - rocking image stabilization and outstanding HD video quality.
    2) Fly6 rear video footage
    3) Telemetry of ride from Virb Edit using greenscreen overlay exported to HD high quality
    4) OpenShot video production software

This is what I had in mind would be possible when I bought the Virb - and now it is - happy happy!

  • Thank you for your feedback.

In 2.1 we re-size video/map in edit mode in such a way so that there is no letter-boxing of the video. I agree that on small screens there is not much room for the video. We'll look into that.

The About dialog (which contains the version information) can be accessed by left clicking on the top left of the application's title bar (next to the V of VIRB Edit) and then picking About... (or the equivalent in Dutch). In 2.2 the About dialog will be more obvious to access.

I forwarded the installer issue to the appropriate team.

Currently we do not plan to add UI for language selection, but that might change. You can manually change it by editing the config file. It's in C:\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Local\Garmin\VirbEdit.exe_Url_{SOMELETTERSANDNUMBERS}\2.1.1.0\user.config.

    Add the following:

    <setting name="UserLanguage" serializeAs="String"><value>en</value></setting> after the <Virb.Properties.Settings> tag.

I have edited the user.config file and text in a video edit is english. Anyhow, after exporting a video, gauges have a wrong language (same as my computer has). How this can be fixed? thank you!using a Virb Edit 3.2.0

The exporter is a different process (different exe file) now. That's why it doesn't honor the language settings.

That's a bug, unfortunately. And I can't think of a work-around at this time. (Short of switching your Windows to English)

    I apologize for the inconvenience.
