VIRB Edit 2.1.1 is available for download at www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=6591.

We added music support (MP3), as well as g-Force and power overlays.

We've fixed the map display issue, and improved the quality of the exported video.

This release is available in 14 different languages.
  • It took over 1 hour to send my with the virb taken video to virb edit. Very sloooowwww...

BTW: what about your virb battery running times?

with 1080p/wide/camara lamp "off" the battery lasts for 2:20:04 (the battery (from a garmin montana-3 month old) was loaded several times to 100% before). Two more times: 2:17:15; 2:17:45

Hey garmin, how did you get 3 hours for the battery in the virb????
  • Why OpenShot is way better than VIRB Edit (actual Youtube video footage example)

OK, I figured out how to combine using VIRB Edit, Garmin GPX together with OpenShot and Greenscreen editing.

You can see the results here: http://youtu.be/AQVCsPwFTjU

I've also put the instructions there of exactly how to do all this. Yes it is some extra steps, but once you have one nice long greenscreen video done (say 15 minutes), you can keep using it over and over to record the gauges from your Garmin tracking (either camera or device), so its actually quick and straightforward at that point.

Plus OpenShot creates the resulting video in the original HD quality, and super fast speed. I'm using Ubuntu also (strongly recommended), but OpenShot will run on Mac or Windows too.

    Enjoy!

p.s. Can also add snap shot of the map view of the mapping track.

Today I went to the shop (WayPoint Moordrecht NL) and did play a little with a VIRB Elite.
I didn't take any pictures of the VIRB Elite as I mas mainly interested in the files it generated.
I made a little indoor video and connected it to my laptop.
The Laptop is still running VIRB-Edit 2.0 as I cant export video's from 2.1.1. (did the ,/. switch needed for 2.0)
The VIRB first saw it was connected to a USB port than showed what it was seeing.
VIRB Edit didn't recognised the VIRB.
Maybe the laptop needed some more time or this was an issue in Edit 2.0 probably the last.
The cable was/is OK I'm using it all the time for reading from my other camera.
At the moment I'm using it with my Zumo 550, it's in storidge mode as it should.
When the uSD was removed and with a uSD-SD adapter placed in the laptop's reader, VIRB-Edit directly recognised a connected VIRB.
The location was given correctly and I exported the video. Upload to YouTube didn't work as the WiFi was slow.
At home I tried 2.1.1 with the SD, it did what it should, exported and uploaded the file made with the VIRB Elite.
Why 2.1.1 refused to export and upload other video's remains the question as with 2.0 there was no problem.
As I didn't needed the VIRB right now I left it at the shop.
Now they have a VIRB that isn't spoken for and can do a little playing themselves.
I'm planning to buy one in March or so, I'll probably have one with later firmware too.
The next step is comparing the taken video to the video of my RoadHawk Ride.
  • Does the laptop run on WinXP or Win7??

Oh wait, it must be running win7 since Virb Edit does not run on XP Machines.

I have my Virb Elite, but on a my WinXP machine it does'nt even recordnize the Virb
camera. When i hook it up on a Win7 Machine there is no probleme what so ever.

both laptop and fixed PC are running Win7 Pro x64
  • VIRB Edit 2.1.1

Yes - the VIRB Edit 2.1.1 will only export video that is recorded on VIRB device - somehow it is checking something in the video file.

That is why I had to record the greenscreen with the VIRB itself - otherwise simple to create a blank greenscreen in OpenShot itself :-(

    Software

Kinda funny the Garmin threads tend to turn into how to use other peoples software to make their product work better or as it should.

I'm back to VIRB Edit 2.0 as it supports non-VIRB video import, export and upload.

    Tempe sensor to video

Good news, still waiting for my Elite ;)

question I saw coming up on the forum is, will there be Vector support on the Virb/Virb edit?

or is "Added overlays for display of power and G-force" the support to show vector power?

The tempe sensor on the Elite does not overlay on the video, The GPS map does not either. Pretty dissapointed at this point. The map overlay was used in the demonstration video. False Advertising?

The video with the map was not posted by anyone from Garmin. I am sorry this lead to confusion.

VIRB Edit 2.2 will allow you to export an outline of your track.
