Loosing control of VIRB Edit on a reasonably spec'd Windows 10 system

I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 i5 8GB system with an Intel 520 graphics module, which used to be OK for working with VIRB Edit. It is now virtually impossible to edit with the software. I can manipulate the clips, add titles, and trim clips. It will export the finished video at a 'reasonable' speed. I don't have great expectations of the speed, but it is fine. But ...

If I try to play the video that I have edited it staggers very badly and is really, really hard to stop and get control back. It used to be quite OK, but now, because of this big issue, it is almost unusable. Something changed - I don't know when ...

Looking at the recommended specs I can see my system hasn't got everything recommended, but it is not bad, and it works pretty well (still) with Adobe Premier Elements.

I am running the latest 5.3.1 release and my system is fully up to date.

Is there anything I can do to get control back more reliably? Could it be anything to do with the change to the 64 bit version? Am I alone?

Have you tried changing your Video Decoder to DXVA (Menu>Settings>Media>Advanced)?
  • Hi, yes - it was se to that option. But thanks for the suggestion anyway!

That said, I have just tried what I was doing again and it seems better. I have had some Windows updates, including driver updates, so maybe it was that. I'll keep an eye on it.

That said, I just left VIRBedit running in the background while I wrote the reply, and then noticed my system was getting hammered on the CPU - by VIRBedit, even though it wasn't playing the video, it was simply sitting in edit mode. And then when I started playing the video, I couldn't get control back again and stop it playing, and had to kill the process. Something is not right!
