I have exactly the same issue and contacted their support. Do you by chance have a Virb 360?

This issue seems to be affecting quite a few people. Unfortunately (?) it is one of those things that either always happens to you, or it never does. In every place we've been able to test, it never does, so tracking it down is proving to be tricky. That said, I consider this particular bug my top priority due to its severity, and I am actively working on it. Those having the crashes, please try updating your video card drivers from your graphics card vendor's website (Windows doesn't always find the latest ones). Try switching your video decoder to ffmpeg if it is not set to that (Menu->Settings -> media tab ). I also have a vague suspicion that there is some relationship between this problem and optimized videos. Try setting your Video Preview Mode to "Full Resolution" (in Menu->Settings->General tab) and see if that makes a difference. And if any of these suggestions makes any difference (or if they don't) please let me know.

    Hi Purdington,

I have trief both full resolution and ffmpeg. Also I tried half resolution and any other decoder settings. I have installed VirbEdit on both my laptop and desktop. Laptop is GTX1060 and dekstop is GTX980. Both show the same problem, when opening the video playback it crashes. I have submitted all the logifles ask asked by Garmin support and also send addtional info.
Both pc's windows 10 latest updates. both drivers updated to the lasted nvidia drivers and I have a Virb 360.

Do you need me to try any other settings?

Hope you can fix it soon.

A couple more things to try, mostly to help me narrow down possibilities. For each of these items, close VirbEdit first. Let me know if any of these has any effect
    1. Rename the preview video directory. C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Garmin\VirbEdit\Preview change it to Preview2. Or just delete it if you don't care about your optimized videos. When you change it back to "Preview" and VirbEdit will be able to find your optimized videos again.
    2. Rename your database and manually import an mp4 file. Your database is at C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\VIRB Edit\Database. Rename it to Database2. When you change it back to "Database" after you are finished testing, VirbEdit will be able to find all your video projects again. You can manually import an mp4 file by dragging and dropping it into your Media Library. Does playing the manually imported video work?
    3. Record a time lapse video and import it into VirbEdit. Does it play or crash like the others? Time lapse videos don't have audio tracks, so we're checking to see if our problem is audio or video related.
    4. In your media library, right click any video that crashes when you try to play it and select "Create Video" and pick a name. After the crash, re open VirbEdit. Did the video you created get added to the Gallery? If so, is there a thumbnail? Does the duration match the source video or is it 0?

When you right click a video in the library and click "Play" do you see the video player pop up or does it crash instantly? If you see the player, do you ever see the first frame from your video (however briefly) or hear any sound prior to the crash?

    Thank you for your help!

    Hi Purdington,

Thanks for your help and I found a temp solution based on your questions. :-)
Let me answer your questions first:

    1. Doesn't work.
    2. Doesn't work
    3. Works, time laps video plays however there is a bug in Virb Edit. It doesn't import a timelaps video properly and any time laps will have a duration of 2 seconds only. So the problem looks like audio related, see my solution below.
    4. The created video does get added to the library with the same seconds. It creates a thumbnail and length matches.

When I right click play, the video player pops up and then crashed. I do not see the first frame of the video.

    Solution:
Due to your question 3, I went researching. I disabled the audio device Realtek audio and it started working. Turning it on crashes Virb Edit.
Then I roll back the driver version to a previous version and Virb Edit works without issues.

During the crash I had Realtek player version 6.0.1.8098, now I rolled back to version 6.0.1.8053. This version works for me and Virb Edit is not crashing anymore.
I am on Windows 10 with the latest updates. Hope above info helpd.

I can bring videos into 5.1.1 OK. I can't EXPORT or SHARE. When I hit the EXPORT or SHARE button, the Export screen comes up and in several seconds the system responds that the program has had an error and must close. - this was also happening to me in 4.2.3

@ChangGarmin Excellent, I'm glad you were able to figure this out. Knowing this really narrows down the problem on my end. I've let our customer support guys know what you've found, so hopefully this will end up helping a lot of people. Working around driver bugs can be pretty tricky. Hopefully I will be able to figure something out.

to throw another virb edit error into the mix, whenever I upload a video when i go to edit it using virb edit on my PC, i get this strange split screen effect, it either pulls in the top of the video near the bottom, or vice versa. This is a recent error but very frustrating, any ideas on how i fix this?
