You can download it at http://www8.garmin.com/support/downl...ls.jsp?id=6591, the in-application update is live as well.

VirbEdit 5.1 is a major application update released in conjunction with the Virb 360 camera, and includes the following updates:

  • Added support for VIRB 360
  • 360 video playback, editing, and export
  • Video stabilization for 360 videos
  • G-Metrix: AR Gauge display and editing for 360 videos
  • G-Metrix: Rotate and scale gauges for 2D videos
  • G-Metrix: Gauge data types and visibility can now be changed
  • G-Metrix: New templates with data presets
  • Import: Attached camera status now displayed on main gallery page
  • Improved hardware support for encoding and decoding
  • Display progress while analyzing clips on memory cards
  • I get the feeling that the VIRB Edit developers are writing their code with boxes that have the latest, greatest GAMER graphics cards and are featuring that anyone that buys a Garmin video product and intends to use VIRB Edit have equivalent machines. That is a FALSE assumption. Most of the computers that are using VIRB Edit are plain vanilla from the factory machines with Standard Graphics cards. The Garmin developers are doing their company a disservice by designing VIRB Edit to only work on 'hot rod' graphics cards.

disagree. There are benefits to developing for new technology, not the least of which is the improved export times gained by leveraging the GPU.

Definitely. Video processing is clearly very demanding on resources so not utilising the current technology to would be crazy. Isn't the minimum GPU Spec for v5.1 ancient?

I find the increase in export speed very significant using a 980ti but i wonder if a gtx1050 would offer a similar boost? [£100 on amazon warehouse].

@purdington has referred to a gtx1070 in another thread but it'd be cool if Garmin could pull together some Benchmarks for people who are thinking about investing in a GPU.

Only processed a couple of videos since updating to v5.1 but it's proving stable - no issues with overlays or export yet.

So? Are you buying new computers or graphics cards every year? I am not a gamer and don't NEED to have the latest and greatest of graphics cards for all my normal activities.
  • In loading Edit 5.1.1 I noticed there is a step that involves interrogating and configuring the Graphics Card - will that insure that if 5.1.1 load successfully that it can be used successfully?
  • I have updated yesterday and exporting works like in 4.X.
My private notebook has an i7 but "just" 4GB of RAM. And my graphics are worse then required (Intel onboard).
Cannot confirm if it got slower or faster, but editing and exporting still work, even with a device under minimum specification.

My working notebook has a bit more power, since Edit uses the graphic card, I should consider changing the device for rendering. In the past (before 5.1.0 ) there was no difference between both devices.

Loaded 5.1.1 to my Desktop. Still get the following when attempting to Export. Obviously with the 'set up' interrogating the Graphic card no 'Red Flags' are raised when mine is interrogated. If the Graphics Card is not 'up to snuff' for VIRB Edit's requirement, the install should be 'backed out' an the user given an error message that means something and is understandable to the 'non-geek'.ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1229484.jpg
