Hello,

Love virb edit. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_uG2ZOy0im2S9FllsaDyTA. But i miss a good track overlay!. The one's you can choose are to little and less information. Bigger and if possible a google maps kind of overlay would be great!!.

I hope the developers read this .
  • Hi, thanks for the reply.

Might be I am in the wrong section but I get issues like below: Track is a square. Its the same even is I zoom. Depending on the start activity location the track changes dramatically:

    " />">

Don't know how your competitions start - if you can, place your 'start position' in something that will be unique to all the other laps of your competition, thus making determining you start position stand out from all the other laps of the competition. If your line in you competition takes you to the outside limit of the track, try to make your start position on the inside limit of the track - something unique that you can identify.

If you zoom in further on your map, you may be able to identify each individual lap's line.

Thanks. I managed to get the correct number of laps but only in one part of the track. (Even choosing the start point as I enter the track gave too many laps and an incorrect track map). Seems a bit random how it picks it up. It is just practice so I joint / leave the track at the same point and just loop the track. No official start / finish line but wanted to try and set it up on a constant jump each time. Guess this isn't possible :(

    Thanks,

How long before you 'start' are you turning the unit on? It can take a number of seconds after the unit is turned on for it to acquire the satellites and fix your position.
  • Mostly I place the Virb somewhere, just turned on (not recording). After about 5 minutes (independent if it go a signal earlier) I turn it off, mount it and use the recording lever from then on.

When it got the signal once, it´s much faster and takes about 1-3 Seconds.
Mostly I am using the Auto-Recording feature, so it will pause the recording when you stop at the pit lane and starts ~3 seconds after you hit the gas :)

For trackdays the perfect solution! Stop after your turn for a second to make it pause again and then leave the pitlane. With that you have the video already roughly cut

From when I start recording my position it would be about 30 seconds before I leave the edge of the track entry point and join the track. It looks like all my lines / positions are saved correctly but its the software part of making this automatically a 'lap' that goes funny. Not sure if any one else has the problem where if they move the 'start activity' time around just slightly it seems to cut / add laps and change the track layout map. For example in same start activity positions the actually track is cut right down as a small 'C' shape and the number of laps increases on the counter to over double what I actually rode

Is is possible that the different legs of the track pass close enough to each other that the software calculates that you are passing the 'same point' on different legs of the lap and thus incrementing the counter. Of necessity the software must have somewhat of a 'wide spot' at your designated Start point to account for varying lines you may take during the competition.
  • There just needs to be some directional filter. EG, if you pass the start line on heading x, then it should only count a new lap if you're heading at that point is x +/- 15 degrees (for example). I do cyclocross racing where the courses usually pass very close to the start line but in the opposite direction. This causes a false lap to be counted unfortunately.

    Regards,
    Brett

Guessing this is what is happening. Its a shame as every video I upload the start / finish line it generates is in a different place. The way the software picks up the track / confuses itself means I have to use wherever the video will recognise the track as full, rather than the same point in each video :(

  • Hopefully an update could help with tight tracks? At the moment it is random where I can have the start / finish line to get the correct track map / lap count. It would be nice to be able to choose the same point on the track to have the start / finish line to keep consistent lap times :)

  • Hello Lewis161,

the bad habit that the track is being cut off, if you set the startingpoint, is currently being investigated.
I have submitted a video, which can be used as an example. Looks similar to your´s if you change the startingpoint. And the laptimes are messed up at the beginning of the second lap, if you cut the video.

To relocate the finishline, I´d suggest a second bar, which works like the one with the startingpoint. Would be the easiest thing for us users. Probably not for the developers ;)
