Overlays queries

I used my Virb Elite on my road bike to video some of todays ride. I've uploaded it into Virb edit and had a play with it.
On some of the cycling overlays there's a section for 'Pace'. Can anyone tell me what exactly this is displaying.
Also, the heart rate and gradient displays seem to work for a while and then just display --
I know there's HRM data all the way through my ride as I can see it on Strava. Is there anyway of making sure this data is displayed for the whole ride?

It would be great if Garmin could add a feature to customise these overlays. So you could determine what information is displayed and in what colour. I'd like to use some of the overlays, but as I don't have a power meter fitted to my bike, there's no point using them.
  • Pace is useless, full scale of 50 km/h is too low, full scale of 2500 W is (by far) too high. It looks like the cyclist templates have been spec'd by a non-cyclist :-)

The templates don't have a limit on their scale.

If the inputfile has a higher limit, the scale changes with that higher limit as maximum.
I've used a powermeter and told it to be a speedometer.
I've done it by just changing the variable "power" into "speed" in the template.
In the widgets (the actual guages) there are no fixed limits.
The numbers you see along the scale are only mentioned as "intervalMarking".
So if there is a setting for Pace or Watt it isn't in the template.
Please make the .gpx or .fit where you find Pace can't get high enough and Watt can't get low enough available for the developers by putting a link here.
  • I checked the analog gauges template files and actually I couldn't find there any indication about the full scale values. So it looks like Virb Edit calculates the full scale value based on the input file for that particular item. But apparently the algoritm is not perfectly optimized to take advantage of the space. Today I did a test movie with a two hours road bike ride, on Virb Edit I combined the power track from my Edge 800, everything very smooth, no issue at all. Also the export step went very well, now I have a nice video with the bicicle dashboard superimposed. But, as i mention in my previous post, the full scale of the power analog gauge is 2500 W, my max power in that video is 864 W. I would have expected a full scale of 1000 W or something like that. Similar situation for speed, the analog gauge has a full scale value of 100 km/h, my max speed has been 61 km/h.

I expect in the next releases of Virb Edit to have an adjustable (customizable) full scale value and/or a more optimized algoritm to calculate the default full scale.

    Some others saw that too.
I think some variables (maximums) are fixed in stead of calculated.
In 2.3 there will be some major changes in the overlays, so I hope they will also fix (make it a variale maximum) that problem.
  • I look forward to seeing adjustable gauge scales in Virb Edit. I went for a flight the other day with a maximum ground speed of 125 knots, and the speed scale on the overlay tops out at 800 knots (my Cessna 172 isn't going to get anywhere near that)

MDELORIE: All gauges besides the scrolling "tape" gauges dynamically adjust to the min/max recorded values for speed/temperature/whatever. In future versions of VIRB Edit, the tape gauges will be dynamic, as well.
  • Okay, thanks. I'll have to check the GPX files, there must be some outliers in my data sets
