Enduro3: incorrect ETA definition

Hello,

On my Enduro3 (software 13.31), ETA is not correct: while navigating, it does not take into account the final arrival point, but sometimes the end of automatic uphill, detected by climb-pro feature. During the uphill sections, ETA indicates the hour of the climb end, as opposed to the final arrival. Otherwise, ETA is working properly, while I am not on an automatically identified uphill.

Thank you.

  • Hello

Yes i had never had this problem with my fenix 7 either. The most complicated thing is to have garmin work on this subject, they do not trust me although i sent quite explicit watch screenshots... i guess they do not care.

  • Yeah, I reported the same issues in a different post this past summer (didn’t see this one). Same result, no response from Garmin, I don’t think they are interested in fixing it or even acknowledging it’s a problem. Only takes a short hike with a climb in the middle to see the problem! Last summer I had to fall back to simple 2 mph math to estimate my finish time each day on backpacking trips, which is pretty sad with a modern GPS watch.

  • I finally disable climbpro feature and ETA is working well but it is a shame having to get rid of option you paid for. Next time Coros.

  • I can confirm that this issue is still present on Enduro 3 with software version 21.39.

In my testing, this does not only affect the “ETA” field, but also the “Time” (time to destination) field.

Observed behavior: When ClimbPro is enabled during navigation, both:

    • ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival)
    • Time (Time to Destination)

are no longer calculated for the final destination. Instead, both values refer to the end of the next ClimbPro segment (upcoming climb).

    This means:

    • ETA shows the arrival time at the end of the next climb, not the destination
    • Time shows remaining time to the end of the next climb, not the destination

Expected behavior: Both ETA and Time should always refer to the final destination of the course, regardless of ClimbPro being active.

Important detail: Disabling ClimbPro immediately restores correct behavior for both fields.

Regression note: On older devices (e.g. Fenix 6X Pro), ETA and ClimbPro worked correctly together. This suggests a regression in the newer platform/software.

Impact: This makes ETA and Time unreliable during navigation whenever ClimbPro is enabled, which significantly reduces usability for hiking, trekking, and long-distance activities.

It would be very helpful if ClimbPro could remain purely informational and not override global navigation calculations.

  • Yes very frustrating, it worked perfectly on my fenix 7x ss.

  • Thanks for bringing this issue up again. I also had to disable ClimbPro to be able to use ETA, but I still don't trust it. It might be broken in more ways and maybe other things than ClimbPro might override it too.

Also, before somebody from Garmin comes here and says that this is "working as intended"... no, it's not. The Enduro 3 user manual clearly says what these fields should do:

Nowhere does it say that this is related to the current climb. It's about the final destination of the course that the watch is currently navigating.

  • Yes, it’s a shame that Garmin hasn’t fixed this bug for so long. I’d really like to be able to use both ClimbPro and ETA just as reliably as I could on my previous 6x Pro. So it must have something to do with the new user interface, and they just don’t want to admit it.

  •  , do you have an internal bug tracking this long standing issue? Can you please check? I remember seeing this reported in previous betas as well.

  • I am afraid we might waste our breath, after several emails to my helpdesk (including screenshots) I finally got an answer directly from the "engineering team": "No ETA is not working the way you described"...

  • Good to know. However they have a contradiction. Either the functionality is incorrect, or their manual that describes what this field does.

Trying to be helpful, I propose this change to the manual of Enduro 3/Fenix 8 and all other watches that use this wonderful logic. (Just to be clear, this following part is a satire to highlight the silliness of saying that this is working as intended.)

    ETA

The estimated time of day when you will reach the final destination* (adjusted to the local time of the destination). You must be navigating for this data to appear.

    * Unless you use ClimbPro, in which case it displays the time of day until you reach the top of your next or current climb**.
** Unless you disable ClimbPro during the activity, then the intended functionality is to freeze the data field on the last prediction and display it until the end of your navigation for maximal confusion.

    ETE

The estimated time remaining until you reach the final destination. You must be navigating for this data to appear.

For all the caveat with this field, please check ETA. As an alternative go on our forums and spend days trying to figure out why this field shows nonsense most of the time.
Please let us know if you find other bugs with this function so that we can list them here instead of fixing them.
