I was lucky enough to have a 30 days return policy. After keeping the EPIX 2 Sapphire for 4 weeks, receiving firmware update 7.24 and trying to solve problems with the help of Garmin support, I decided to return the watch for the following reasons.
- German / Austrian support is useless. All the supporter could refer to was his Fenix 6 and his Bose InEars. Which apprarently have no issues and which was of absolutely no help to me. After one chat, one phonecall and one mail with Garmin support, it boiled down to either live with the issues or not. I decided not to. No solution was offered from the side of Garmin. Passing the problem to the seller is also a way of handling issues.
- Bluetooth-Issues. During an activity the EPIX keeps loosing connection to BT InEars. Everything the Garmin knowledgebase and support suggested was tried. I used 4 different BT In-Ears with the same result. Garmin suggests to not connect the EPIX to a smartfone during an activity while listening to music at the same time. Apart from that not solving anything regarding my problem but what’s the use of an emergency function then???
- It’s not possible to do a regular reset. I do had to it twice becaue of issues with playlists. The EPIX just freezes after rebooting. On needs to do a master reset to get it operating again.
- No word from GARMIN about limitations to the amount of tracks possible in a playlist. I used two big 2 playlists. One from Spotify (250 songs) and one I created with the Garmin instructions step by step (221 songs). On the EPIX only the first 2 songs are listed in these playlists. Smaller playlists seem to work. But where is the limit....?
- Buttons react and feel dodgy. That is obviously a hardware issue. Maybe the next batches will be better.
- No full touchsreen support in some submenues. One needs the buttons to change and confirm.
- Third-party developers cannot implement active widgets within their watchfaces. So why bother with a touchscreen in the first place? The built-in watchfaces on the EPIX 2 are not excactly a milestone in design and pretty limited.
- All in all a poor show from Garmin regarding support and customer loyalty. It would also have been very annoying for a Garmin watch that costs much less, but for the price Garmin asks for the EPIX 2 Sapphire it’s unacceptable.
