New Raid Pyrenees 2024 , First Half - Feedback

As the other thread is a bit long, I figured I'd start a new one for testing. This will be dedicated to the first 12 of the 24 stages. The second half will be published after they have completed the server switch sometime in June along with the Corsica & possibly also some from Sardinia.

Stage 1 does start a little early so we do have some very strong sun glare at the very start..it gets better!

Stage 2 - we head away from the main roads & you get to see the mountains grow in size.

Stage 3 - 1st proper HC climb with the Iraty, its steep also,  these amazing green-coloured climbs are not as well known as they should be

Stage 4 - 6 Col du Soudet to the Col de Marie Blanque the 2nd long day of filming in the Spring with the older camera...its going to hurt, but its all very scenic!

Stage 7 - 12 Col d'Aubisque to the Peyresourde.  We skip forward in time to September 2022, starting off from the end of Stage 6, some Autumn colours can be spotted as you climb & we are also now using the newer chicken camera on Bertha...I was using this trip to learn the brand-new camera & I am still learning how best to use it, haha.

The list of KOMs for the first 12 stages—I count 35 KOMs in total—might number them? Perhaps in reverse order?

  • Bluetooth 100/100%.

v2 RAID01 - Hendaye - Great video. Even against the sun everything is clearly visible.

    Small remarks:

Minimum height - minus 6 meter.

30.8 km from start - the camera is slightly not horizontal. Speed)

43.95 km from start - a small section of the road where road feeling may be needed.

Several times I thought that the distance between the cars was small. Several times I thought that a car would hit me)

Thats the wider angle lens on the old camera, it brings in the sides so some passing cars seem a bit close, even if they are actually a good meter away or more...but on the plus side you get to see more of the views then the new cameras FOV.

But its probably my wife if its the dreaded white Mercedes van with my roadbike that was almost never used on the back!  You will now spot it everywhere for the next stages, probably yelling something to me through the passenger window. Does not happen often on regular films but this one required that she follow me with the spare batteries so I could increase my range by being a fair bit lighter in total.

  • Now I will see to Mercedes)
While it's raining outside. Today I rode v2 RAID02 - Basque Foot Hills.
Everything is very good! At 6.1 km the paraglider was pleased.

  • Exactly! It was white Mecedes van)

  • Today I saw white Vito. At the first stage drove nearby cargo van. Maybe it wasn't a Mercedes.

  • Bluetooth 100/100%.

    v4 RAID03 - Cols d'Iraty

7.1 km, after meeting with wife and stopping, the gradient drops sharply.
A very beautiful climb! The weather outside is similar. It only rains from time to time.
Sometimes the horizon is tilted after turns. But not for long.

v1 RAID04 - Col du Soudet (only first 17.05 km). The hardest thing is yet to come.

It can be seen that there is a different camera. The quality is a little worse. A bicycle behind a Mercedes.

Now I've seen Mercedes many times)
Good the virtual inertia of Tacx NEO!

its still the same camera, but you have just started the 2nd day of filming so you start again with a very low sun in our face for a time as we wanted to get as much filmed as possible....this filming day (& the filming from the Spring trip) ends on the other side of the Col de Marie Blanque a few stages ahead. The newer camera footage starts in the same spot with the Col d'Aubisque but now in September (actually at the same moment the Queen of England was being buried)..We had a good run with the weather all the way until the final mountain where we had to wait a day in the rain!

  • I didn’t expect that the Sun would cause such a change in the picture. I really like this road.

Not always, sometimes the sun really can make the film, its just this type of day with a very harsh light starting early means a lot of dark shadows & very bright sections of road, although looking at the master file for this one it looks nice to me. Its a bit in the shadows in the valley before you start climbing, sky is starting get a little washed out, the next two climbs its the same weatherwise but as the sun climbs the shadows become less of an issue & things compress better then.
