  • To add a story

back in 2004 when we first started, I had the camera mounted on a tripod that was mounted onto the front of the Tacx minivan they had back in the day (seemingly without any suspension). I used to manually move the camera angle downward as we climbed as to attempt a fake "Hill effect" in our first Tour of Flanders film which followed part of the women race..it was not a great idea at the time, but the intention was noble!  Its amazing how the tech has changed over the years..

Haha, thanks for sharing this. Funny to read the differences and progress made in filming over almost 20 years.

Here is a pic from later into 2004 on the Galibier ...made from bits found in my garage, including the A frame of a old Tacx trainer :-) . This mad contraption of mine put the big camera into a state of near the center of gravity which in turn got me the lean & the 'Hill effect', it also helped to reduce the vibration.. Only used this setup for some of the original 2004 DVDs due to safety reasons.

I should do a dedicated post about this history of Tacx filming geekery somewhere this next year haha

  • At 26,41km (beautiful mountain view) there seems to be a video cut. The 2 pieces of video which are glued together seem to be from totally different sections which made it really weird to me. Is there a piece of film missing? This was a harsh transition. Can anyone confirm that I'm not the only one who experienced this? Is there any way to improve this?

ok looked at this, it was a route change where due to the roads there & where the bike route took us it became impossible to film it any other way...other then go back about 4km & film along the main road (that had the official bike path next to it) rather then through that nice village haha.. its not a bug at least but rather a poor route choice on my side (although the old mountain village is I hope a nice detour)..Its good feedback still, I want to know if these moments seem bothersome.

    Thanks for checking.
I rode it again today and I'll admit I was a bit annoyed by this moment again. You have to know I'm a bit of a perfectionist and probably no representation for the general public. I guess most riders won't be as bothered and some won't even notice. I ride with a big TV in front of my bike to get the best experience out of these films, so this movie-cut was a bit "in my face" :)

The route is great and the film is otherwise perfect. It seems to me this one also got some more attention in the details like added road-feel on small sections. I will most certainly ride it again!

  • It would be interesting to read how old films were made. Especially in the USA. Where the camera tilted left and right.
    I rode the video:
    1Möll - Radweg to Franz-Josefs-Höhe (Austria)
2Möll - Grossglockner South, Edelweisspitze (Austria)
    1La Chouffe
    2La Chouffe
While the knee was recovering The difficulty - 20-40%. Road Feel Intensity - 100%. Beautiful roads. Everything is fine.

  • I have done RhineSource Gravel, Oberalp Pass, Gotthard Pass, Tauern 1+2 and Moll 1+2. All were without issues. Very nice is the part to the Edelweißspitze with perfect road feel. I have seen one time  the issue with Peter Scheuten reported that the road feel didn't stop. In this time I probably have used the beta firmware from tacx neo bike. But because of issues with the Tacx desktop app I rolled back to the productive firmware.
