Ant+ not working on the Desktop App

I can't search for ANT+ devices in the latest build, which I re-installed after a clean install of Win11. The ANT+ button is greyed out and the app only finds Bluetooth devices

However, ANT+ is  working for other training apps (TrainerRoad, Zwift)

Do we need to install specific ANT+/USB drivers for TDA ANT+ to work?

Edit

Resolved: i had not installed Visual C++ 2013. Now working again

  • Hi Andrew,

Did you update the computer to WIndows 11?

  • Was this the whole "resolution"? I have exactly the same symptom, Tacx doesn't find ANT+ Zwift does, Win 10 and machine upgraded from Win!0 do  Clean Win 11 doesn't. It didn't have C++ 2013 runtime but installing that (and 2012 - desperation) hasn't helped

  • OK - my mistake, i thought being a Win11 machine the x64 runtime would be correct, In fact the x86 one is needed and it works beautifully

  • I just upgraded my bike training PC with a W11 compatible MB, CPU, etc.  TDA does not appear to see my ANT+ stick, which I use for HR purposes.  BT works fine.  I installed the ANT+m drivers from the Garmin website and the PC appears to recognize the ANT+ stick.  However, that did not help with TDA as ANT+ button is not lit on the device install page.  Do I need to do a separate install of an x86 runtime?  Is there anything more current on this W11 issue?

  • Michael, yes in a word. as far as I can see if you do a clean w11 install you will only get the 15-22 c++ runtime and the tacx/Ant+ code seems to need the 2013 runtume. More specifically although your pc is doubtless 64 bit the app isn't and you need the x86 version. This isn't a problem if you upgrade as a w10 machine will almost certainly have the 2013 runtime already.

  • Rob, thanks for the very helpful advice.  I downloaded the specific Visual C++ runtime in your link and ANT+ now works in TDA.

I am sure most users are aware of this, but MS will discontinue all free support for W10 and older systems on October 14, 2025, so you need a W11 machine by then if you want both bug and, more importantly, security updates.  I have a fair number of W10 machines, which are highly functional, but are not compatible with W11.  My machines are AMD and you must have AM4 or newer sockets as well as motherboards with TPM2.  So, there will be a lot of PC's that will end up in the trash heap unless they are NEVER connected to the Internet and need no updating of any kind.

The only solution for obtaining security updates after October 14 is to purchase Microsoft 365 and install it on the older PC.  My understand is that will result in security updates being available for free, but no other type of updates.  You can purchase Microsoft Family 365 which allows 6 users on multiple devices.  These Microsoft 365 products require payment of an annual license fee unless you find a lifetime license which can be available from some third-party re-sellers.

My bike PC is my third W11 machine and Visual C++ was not installed or even available as an optional or legacy Windows feature in Control Panel.  All of my W11 installs have been new fresh rather than upgrade installs over W10.

I also have TDA public and beta installed on a desk PC that I use for new download Demo testing.  For some reason this desk PC has many versions of Visual C++ (both 32 and 64 bit) that were no doubt installed by other programs.

I am surprised that the TDA installer on used my bike PC did not detect that 32-bit Visual C++ was not present.  Seems like that is an install bug that Tacx/Garmin should correct.

So, I urge other TDA users with older PC's to come up with a transition plan as October 14 will be here before you know it.
