My experience with my Vivosport

So I'm new to the whole activity tracker, my original requirement came from being fed up with how my strava app on my phone would consume so much power over my longer distance running.

I used my dad's Fitbit charge 2 thinking I could do this but later found out it needs to be constantly synced up with my phone's GPS for tracking.

After searching on the net what device has a built in GPS and wasn't as big as a smart watch (also because I already wear my analogue watch on my right wrist) I came across the Garmin Vivosport.

In brief here is a summary of pros and con of using this device for about a week.

Pros
  • Small footprint of device compared to others (built in GPS)
  • Features more activity motions (VO2 Max, Stress levels)
  • Waterproof (to a certain degree)
Cons
  • The double tap function is not consistent and not responsive.
  • The menus are a bit intrusive.

I've been out on a group session run and just completed a half marathon yesterday and pleased to say the GPS lock and tracker worked wonders for what I need it to do. So instead of carrying an arm strap for my phone I can now leave this behind and when I paired it up as I got back to my car it syncd everything together.

At the moment I've only used this for less than a week but so far happy with the product itself and would recommend this to anyone who wants a low profile GPS tracker. The setup process is something a little bit cumbersome but after once I got around it its now fine. Stairs counter is a little off but its not something I particular care about, And I have read the reports on the strap braking so will be careful when putting it on and off.

I'll be keep my eye out on the forums and updating this thread over due course with my personal experience.
  • So one thing I have seen a few times is how awesome the pair is. I had to start my bluetooth service on my phone and where you would normally go into the Android Bluetooth setting pair it up with the passcode, I launched the Garmin Connect App and it just failed to connect up each time. I thought I needed the USB cable to get this working but after trying a number of different combinations to pair, sync I managed to get it to work.

    What I expect when pairing:
    • Switch on Bluetooth on phone.
    • Navigate to the pairing option on the device
    • Tap Paid on the device
    • Search for new pairing device on phone
    • Enter pin code
    • Go to Garmin App on phone and add device
    • Follow the on screen instructions on the app to sync or add device to app.
What I had the most issue was from step 6/7 and the pairing on the add would just fail or go in a circle as if its waiting for the device to pair up. The Garmin device was in sync mode already and just not talking to each other.
