Vivosport vs Vivoactive HR+?

I tried the Vivoactive 3 but discovered I prefer the band style wearable over the watch style.
Currently using the Vivosmart HR+ and like it but really wish it had a color screen.
I'm also not a big fan of the button on the Vivosmart HR+ and would rather have had the touchscreen been utilized for menu access.

My only reservation about picking up a Vivosport is the smaller screen.
I like the looks and features but fear that I'll be giving up too much real estate with the screen.

For those who have gotten their hands on the Vivosport is the small screen manageable? Or am I better off waiting for Garmin to release a color screen version of the HR+.
  • My main gripe with my Vivosmart HR+ is the lack of a stopwatch or countdown timer, despite their inclusion (perhaps euphemistically) on the spec list. I see the Vivosport is available in-town here so I might get it soon (for feature completion) and will report back if so. I don't expect that the color will offer any real advantages, but this is an interesting question.

The vivoactive HR has a color screen. Do you mean vivosmart?

You're right. Should be Vivosmart HR+.
  • Now this makes more sense;) Too many vivo's

I think this is the upgrade from the vivosmart HR+ so I think the next iteration/upgrade will be the vivosport 2. Of course I don't work for garmin so am just guessing based off of the reviews and info on this device but I don't think we will see another vivosmart. It seems to go vivosmart (no gps)->vivosmart HR->vivosmart 3 (no gps)->vivosport

I currently have the vivoactive HR and my wife has the vivosmart HR. She is keeping her vivosmart for now but I am probably going to get the vivosport. I like the size vs my vivoactive which has the larger screen. The larger screen is great for a smartwatch but find I don't need it for an activity tracker that I wear 24/7 and actually prefer the smaller size. I just need to be able to see my times and HR.
  • I went from a vivosmart HR+ to vivosport and prefer the new screen despite the smaller size. One of the options to customise the home screen allows both the time and the steps to be displayed which is much better as these are the 2 I used to switch between most and now I can view on one display.
  • I got the Vivoactive HR when it first came out, aside from being a bicyclist (Use an Edge) I'm a paddleboarder and the paddleboarding app was a big selling point for me. The thing is, it's big and I got tired of wearing it 24/7 as a tracker. So, now I have a Vivosport as my Tracker which is also useful for walk, runs and such but I'm still keeping my Vivoactive HR for paddling and occasionally on the bike when I want to connect to the sensors... The Vivosport has a band that stretches, is much smaller and it much more of a pleasure to wear 24/7...

  • I am in the same exact boat. I have the vivoactive HR but its too big to wear 24/7. I want an activity tracker that is comfortable that I can wear all of the time regardless of what I am doing...this is why I am more than likely getting the vivosport. Having said that, I also do like having a watch, I just don't like wearing it all of the time so I have been considering Apple Watch 3 or another smartwatch to have as my watch I wear to work or whatever on the opposite wrist of my activity tracker. I think having both in one device is nice but not convenient. Sleeping with my vivoactive HR just plain stinks.
  • Just to close the loop I left open, I did get the Vivosport and have had it for three months now. So while it's likely too late to help the original poster, but here are my observations.
To answer the initial question: I don't mind the tiny screen. In fact, my favorite feature is that the whole thing is small and out-of-the-way. I can customize it to show what I'm interested in out-in-front and the rest of the analytics and stuff I use the app to view anyway.

A bit off-topic, then, I also like the fact that vibrations are silent. There was nothing discreet about my Vivosmart HR+ vibration. Everybody could hear it. On the negative side, I REALLY miss having a real button. All the double-taps, holds, and swipes make navigating the features a time-consuming task. As I expected, the color adds no value to me vs. black only for this device, but it works ok. As a major bonus, the screen is flat and recessed just slightly so that it's protected from scratches--I wear it screen-in. The whole device has held up well and still looks fabulous.

In summary, I like the Vivosport enough that I virtually never take it off. That really hasn't happened since my Microsoft Band croaked.
