Should Strava send cycling straight to Garmin connect?

I have swapped to a vivosmart after my old reliable Fitbit Alta gave up. I’m really frustrated with the garmin.  I have connected Strava but the information flow is only from the garmin to strava and the garmin doesn’t show any cycling activity from Strava.  I though it should?  Have I got that wrong? Do I have to manually upload it? Strava is all linked and set up.

In additions, have connected the vivosmart to iPhone and iPad. It just shows disconnected at all sorts of random times and loses gps connection with the phone on walks. It’s not stable at all and I wonder if it’s too clever for its own good. I like the style of the Vivosmart   but the interface with Strava and garmin connect I think is weak and highly frustrating.  I get too many lost connections alerts, it didn’t record a walk yesterday and it won’t sync unless you manually forget the other device (iPad or iPhone - you can’t have both! )

Any suggestions on Bluetooth and Strava upload to garmin very welcome    Thanks
