Very disappointed coming from Vivosmart 3

I just bought a VS 4 to replace my VS 3, and I'm very disappointed because some useful functions for me have been removed:

1) stress in the last hour, it was nice to just tap and see stress evolution in last hour,

2) HR in the last hour too,

3) When running, VS3 displays lap speed rate at end of each lap,

3) test of VO2Max just with a tap.

SPO2 sounds an unuseful gadget and Body Battery doesn't tell more than stress level and I don't like to have to wear watch each night.

The big benefit I see is outside readability of screen by a sunny day. Another benefit is the relaxing timer which is better to follow.

Am I wrong ?

  • There are two features missing on VS 3:

    • Connected GPS: not very useful for me, why recording running and walking path ? If I need that I can start Adidas Runstatic or another app.
    • Supplementary activities: bike, elliptic, stepper, yoga, swim, but I can choose 'other' on VS3 and change it on Garmin Connect. Maybe swim activity is interesting by I have Moov Now for that.

If I resume my requirements are:

    1. measuring active minutes,
    2. follow my HR all day long because I had some cardio trouble,
    3. motivating me to do 150 active minutes  each week.

VS3 and Garmin's watches are very good to do 1. and 2, not as good for 3. Maybe Body Battery could improve 3., but missing some notifications.

For workout motivation, I use: Vi Trainer running programs, Jabra Sports workout program, Garmin Challenges, Adidas Runtastic Challenges and Moov Coach.

As you see I'm motivated by challenges, so can VS4 challenge me more than VS3 ? I don't think so !

  • I think you're forgetting about the improved sensors and the PulseOx functionality (admittedly I don't use it but it's there)

The screen size of the VS4 is smaller and therefore can't show as much, I think that's probably the main reason for some of the features you're missing from the VS3.

Personally I'd look at it that the VS4 is smaller than the VS3 and less noticable - maybe that would have a downside on your need to be challenged but as you've said you have plenty of other resources to challenge you! Did the VS3 do anything that the VS4 doesn't except last hour information?

You can get lap times to show by going into Settings > Activity Options > Run/Walk > Data Fields > Lap Pace. That fixes #3.

#4 can be done by tapping the button, going to the Heart Icon then VO2 - this then shows your VO2. If you want to then do a test then tap on the number to initiate it.

  • Are the sensors really improved, I don't find differences with VS3.

I wrote about PulseOx as SPO2, maybe the french term.

The screen sizes: VS3 (64x128), VS4 (48x128), not so big difference. it's just matter of setting the possibility, HR in last hour are just two numbers : lower and higher.

Ah yes thanks for fixing Lap Pace and VO2 test, I will try it today.

I didn't know that VO2 test was available after a first automatic estimation.

  • I send back VS4 to Garmin, I keep my VS3, maybe buying a Vivomove.
