multi-devices

Just got this delivered today in the UK (John Lewis) I also have a fenix 5 plus (3HR before that), I tend to only wear the fenix when I do activities but have been wearing a fitbit alta HR on my other wrist so I can wear classic watches mix/match but get all day steps and calorie estimates.

Ive now switched my fitbit to the vivosmart 4 as my "all day device" I noticed that if I select it as my preferred device (tip says worn most often) if I run and set the fenix 5 plus to record it, the vivosmart kicks in and also record a run at the same time, it seems that true-up or the fact its preferred tracker means the fenix 5+ data is not uploaded or discarded/ignored even though it has more data (GPS, cadence, vertical oscillation etc etc) any way I can make my all day scenario with the vivosmart work but have it prefer the fenix 5 for activities.

Leave your vivosmart 4 at home and run only with your fenix.

This is the exact question I had! I've been using Fitbit for quite some time … but I use a Garmin Fenix5X Plus for rowing - if I used a Vivosmart 4 (instead of the Fitbit,) all day, and then used the Fenix for rowing, running, etc., will it all sync up to Connect seamlessly? Say, for instance, will heart rate data, total steps (if I was running or hiking and using the Fenix instead of the Vivosmart) all be added up?
  • I think that it is pulling the run from Move IQ auto start of activity. If I were you, I would turn off Move IQ Auto Start activity under Activity Tracking in settings

I just use true up to sync before I switch devices. I do my activity. Sync. Use true up and go back to vivosmart
  • if you don't want to wear both simultaneously (i would recommend though that you did), then as long as you sync both devices before and after the runs, it should all end up nicely on GCM and on the watch.
if you do wear both simultaneously for the activity, i would recommend that you NOT start an activity on the VS4. You can also turn off auto start activity (RUN) so it won't kick on accidentally. also, it shouldn't matter that your VS4 is your primary device. from reading your initial post, it kind of sounds like you did not actually get the activity file from the Fenix into GC, maybe sync failed. But you did get an activity from the VS4. So it looked like that activity was somehow preventing the Fenix's from showing up. I don't think that ever happens.
