Vivomove Style - Glitches

I’ve been using the Vivomove style for about a month now and for the most part, I’m thoroughly enjoying it. There’s been a few things that have given me some concerns though, and I’m wondering if anyone has had similar experiences or if the device should be returned for repairs.

- The 3rd time I used GarminPay, I had input the PIN to pay for a coffee and the watch just stopped working when I held it up to the EFTPOS to pay (and didn’t make the payment). It was out all day until I could get it home and ‘restart’ it with the charger. This was an incredibly disappointing experience and it’s given me trust issues with the GarminPay. I keep a charger on me now to perform resets but this is definitely worrying for me.

- I’ve kept the watch charged up until now as I use the tracking features regularly (as you do when you own a Garmin device) however one of the reasons I bought the vivomove was for its ability to continue working in watch only mode after the battery had died. Unfortunately, when the battery died at midnight last night the watch hands sat at where they stopped.

I really want to love this device but these events have got me worried. Has anyone else had these issues? Any Garmin reps care to comment on the stability of this device (especially long term) and if these are indicative of faults in this device?

  • its ability to continue working in watch only mode after the battery had died.

My understanding from reading the specifications...

Smartwatch mode: up to 5 days
Watch mode: up to 1 additional week

This was my understanding too - it didn’t seem to work in reality though.

  • I do not use GarminPay, so I cannot comment on that.

In reference to the other question, I have had the Style since this past August and usually I charge it every other day. I keep the HR and Pulse OX monitor on all the time, use connected GPS every day (sometime twice a day) and use the watch to track my weightlifting workout, which keeps the display on almost continuously.

I have let the watch go down to zero battery a couple of times just see how long I can go with my usage pattern (about three and half day, by the way, before the display no longer turns on) and every time the analog hands continued happily to work.

Before the Style I had the Vivomove HR and it behaved the same way, never had the hands stopping once the battery was so drained that the display did not turn on and Bluetooth synch stopped.

Garmin's reps only rarely show up here, I suggest you contact then via their chat, it works very well and they are responsive. If you haven't done it yet, you could also try a reset of the watch, just to rule out any weird software glitch.

  • Used Garmin Pay only a few times because it's much easier to pay with the mobile phone that I usually also carry with me. But everytime I used it, it worked fine.

Agree to what Batman said: Watch hands continue to work for me, same behavior as the Vivomove HR.

  • Hello, Are you still seeing the issue with Garmin Pay? Are you also still experiencing the device hands not moving after the device battery dies? If so, have you by chance performed a reset on the device? If this has not been resolved, I can direct message you and we can further troubleshoot and get this resolved.

  • Hi, exactly the same experience from yesterday. My vivomuve luxe (FW 3.70) died at the time of payment. Payment failed. Hands jammed in position 3-9. I had to restart at home with the charger and recalibrate the hands. However, this happened even though 30% of the battery was still in the clock. Inconceivable.
