Vivomove Style, any way to have custom workouts or to mark courses as completed?

Hi guys,

I owned the VivoActive 3 a year ago or so, but returned it after a few days as I did not like it.
I am trying again with Garmin, and I am pretty new to the Connect app experience, hence excuse for may look like newbie questions.
I have recently bought the Garmin Vivomove Style, as I was looking for a classic watch with some smart and fitness capability.
I was checking out the Garmin Connect app both on the phone and via web, and thought of creating a Garmin Coach plan for the 10K run.
Unfortunately I have realized there is no way to sync it to the watch, as it does not support Garmin Coach.
I then tried to join a 10K course/challenge, but again no luck other than seeing them in the calendar function via the app. No way to sync it with the watch.
Same goes for the custom created running training: they do not sync to the watch. Not supported.
Now I appreciate this is not a watch for serious runners, however is there any way to at least mark the workouts as "completed" in the app, importing (or better yet, linking) the data collected with the watch while actually doing the run?
Or e.g. start the run or training plan via the app carrying the phone with you and then only use the watch as a HR monitor?
Of course, I understand that e.g. for interval runs, I won't be able to have vibration or sounds telling me that the interval is over or about to start... but is anything more advanced that "run" available either with a workaround or via the app only?
Thanks a lot to whoever may be able to help as this may be crucial to decide whether I want to return the watch.
Ale
  • vivomove watches are not compatible with Garmin Coach. So I fear there's no such option or at least none that I'm aware of. The watch can act as a HR monitor but only to compatible ANT+ devices; I don't think a mobile phone is one of them.

    Thanks.

So I have successfully managed to add the HR to apps that support HR broadcast.

    I have used a Samsung S10 which has a ANT+ sensor built-in.

I had also found an old Adidas miCoach ANT+ USB receiver, and when plugged in to a Huawei P30 Pro, I could also see there the HR.

Unfortunately apps like Strava have removed the ability to connect to HR sensors.

I guess the best solution (less worst) at the moment is to use apps which have workout plans with voice alerts (mainly for interval trainings), and use them either with the ANT+ sensor, or without, and then rely to the data upload and sync from backend from Garmin Connect (obviously I will have to also start an activity on the watch).

I know Runkeeper may do that. Any other app?

I really do not understand how Garmin Connect is not also a stand-alone app: it can create workouts on the app, but you cannot start them from the app itself (am I right or wrong?) and since I do not have a compatible watch, the functionality to create workouts is useless. Any suggestion?
