So close to great! Questions

I have ran into a few issues that I can not seem to locate the answers to.

1) If the Vivofit jr2 is very close to the Vivofit 3 why can you not sync to the Garmin Connect app. As kids grow older they no longer want the child interface and that would be a perfect why to make the band able to grow with the child.

2) The screen is very light! It is so hard to see that during the day sometimes it is unreadable. The other devices have a brightness option why take that away with this version. If kids can not see the screen they will grow frustrated and stop using the device.

3) Can a parent assign a chore that is for one day - one time?

4) Is there a kids version of the app so they do not have to go on the parents device to use the Adventure area.

5) http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=12795#Instruct this page shows the link for the update but the link is dead. I would guess the devices we have need this update as we just bought them

6) What is the star on the device in the menu. It is not the star with wings for new adventure level. It seems to get a number under it however, nothing says what it is for.

7) How can you get the other Adventures without buying another Vivofit? A picture on one of the advertisements lead me to believe once you purchased a Disney band you had access to all the Adventures.
.
8) Can you set a chore reminder without sound so just the icon shows on the screen?

Please assist if possible! I want to love this device but I feel as if some of the features are just not up to Garmin standards! By far the Brightness is a BIG ISSUE

I might be able to answer some of your questions. I bought my son a Jr about a year ago, and it got pretty beat up, and he was really wanting additional alarms. I searched high and low for another kid activity tracker that had similar functions (alarms, rewards, chores etc..) but in the end the Jr2 was the only thing that meet our needs.

There was a pretty good improvement in screen design from the Jr to Jr2, the Jr's screen was just a plastic cover that was flush with the watch, the recessed version on the 2 is an improvement over the first one. I have noticed the backlight is not super bright, but my son has not complained about being able to see the screen or anything on it. But he also has 7yo eyes. Are you projecting your difficulty in the screen or is he/she complaining?

I am pretty sure the VFJr's are designed for kids that do not have phones yet, so they sync with parent devices. If you're kid is old enough for a phone I would say they're old enough for a straight up vivofit (my opinion). That said, all this tracks is steps/sleep, no actvities so while it would be nice to have a migration from the parents account to their own, there are not going to be any major data that you're going to lose (again IMHO).

The chores in general are very manual entry, so creating one and just 'checking it off' once would not be much more work than having daily chores. The whole system is based on the parent on the app verifying and checking off chores.

#6, I believe the star you're referring to is reward points, you can assign rewards for things like "going to movies" could be 25 reward points. Once the child has that many they (you because its on your phone) can redeem that reward).

    Not sure about additional adventures.

#8, I don't believe you have that level of granularity.

You can check out the dcrainmaker article on the vivofit jr2 for more details information. You can google "dcrainmaker vivofit jr 2" follow this link.

    Hope that helps some.

As an FYI, my 7yo does enjoy the watch and looks forward to the adventure moves as part of bedtime. HOWEVER, right now the watch is having an issue since last week and I cannot get it paired with the app so it's sort of a paperweight. Garmin knows about it and is working on it.

WOW you have been amazing! Thank you! My daughter has asked about the brightness and it seems to be when the environment is bright. We did think long and hard about going to the Vivo3 as the Disney Band was a HUGE selling point for us. But she really wanted the app and Minnie Mouse's adventure. As for the child app vs the parent app. I just do not like the fact that you either have to give your kids all the control or none. Once they have the app they can assign whatever they want and check off completed items. It is interesting you bring up syncing. We see to have to make the device forget the band and re-find it otherwise it will just keep looking and looking. Your spoke about the stars. Funny I thought the same thing it must have to do with Rewards however, we added rewards and it did nothing. Her's says a 1 with the star. The chores, I am still a bit stuck, to do your method do I create a chore and check it off then wait until the next day and delete it? It just seems that the Vivofit 3 looks just like the jr2 and with that being said I would think like most companies the insides would be similar and the difference would be in what is activated.

So, the star's are the points you give your kid for doing chores. So for instance, say you have a "brush teeth" or "feed dog" chore setup, you can assign it 'points'. then when you check off the chore, it will add points to that star screen.

You can also adjust the stars independently as needed. So for instance, say your kid really helped you by doing something that's not a chore, you can just go in and add (+) coins/stars. The "rewards" you add, are what cost points/coins. So, they can "redeem" a trip to the park by giving up 10 coins.

As for the whole chores, thing, you just go into the chores, and add/delete as required. If you go to the chores screen, there is a + to add, or if you want to delete, you just click "view all chores" then select the chore and "delete" it.

But you add the chores you want and assign a coin/star/point value. If they do the chore you check them off and they get a star/coin (or however many you assigned). Each interval the chores reset. You can set them to each day, every week, every other week etc. But those coins/stars are like money they earn for doing stuff, and the "reward" is just that. For instance, My son likes Dave & Busters, but it cost 75 coins. He also has other rewards (a new game on his tablet that cost 20 coins). So he can "save" his coins until he has 75 and we'll take him to D&B, or he can blow them when he gets to 20 and get a new game on his tablet. Hopefully that makes sense.

Last night I revived his old Jr1 watch (which is all scratched up and has a big black spot of dead pixels in the middle of it) because his new one is not connecting/pairing to the app still :-( He really missed having the time on his wrist so I put his old one in his new band for now. Only thing is he can't follow the star wars story.
