Inaccurate step count

Vivoactive 3 Music

I pushed a pram 2.6km this morning while walking the kids to school.

According to my watch id walked 1.3km and done less than 2000 steps. Whats up with that? is my watch faulty or is this an issue with the development of software that if your hands are moving the steps dont count?

  • Your armswing is picked up by the watch acceleramoter to determin if steps are to be recorded. When I'm mowing the lawn I place my watch in my pocket to accurately get steps.

See Garmin support page My Garmin Watch is Not Accurately Counting Steps

There are also instances where a lack of arm movement may result in a lack of steps recorded while you are walking. These may include, but are not limited to:

    • Pushing a stroller or shopping cart
    • Mowing the lawn
    • Carrying a bag of groceries or a child
    • Holding the safety handles of a treadmill while walking
    • Holding hiking poles or sticks
    • Riding a bike
    • Holding a leash while walking a pet
