Strength training tracking

I love my Garmin for tracking cardio and running, but my experience with using it for tracking weight lifting workouts is disappointing.

a) I *swear* the heart rate isn't accurate - I can have a super high perceived exertion, but my heart rate is barely in Zone 1.  I keep meaning to do a cross check using a pulse oximeter but haven't done it yet.  Do other folks experience this? I'm training reasonably hard using supersets instead of inter-set rest periods, and moving around a lot, but I almost never get intensity minutes from weight training. 

b) The behavior of tracking sets is super annoying, but I can't seem to turn that off.  I'd be perfectly happy showing a 45 minute duration and a heart rate. 

Other experiences/thoughts?
