Garmin Express does not recognize my Vivoactive3

I have been having issues with my Vivoactive3 for just over a week. Today, I discovered Garmin Express cannot find/identify my VIvoactive3 when it is plugged into the USB port. It still freezes - always when I try to navigate to start the gps for a run or when I swipe the clock face. 

I thought maybe it was a software issue so went to Garmin Express to see if there is an update. As is wrote above, Garmin Express doesn't even recognize the Vivoactive when I try to add a device or search for one.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Start with a reboot of the VA3. (You probably already did that.) Next thing to try is a hard reset.

    Hard Reset on vVvoactive 3:

    • Press and hold the side button for 30+ seconds until the screen is completely blank
    • Leave off for a full minute
    • Press the side button again to power back on

    I have tried both several times over the last week, to no avail. The last time I was able to navigate to the system settings and to a reset to default settings. Once I finished with all of the optional settings, I was unable to pair with my iPhone. That was earlier today after which I rebooted the VA3. When it (finally) started, it immediately froze.

    My guess is the next step is to replace it....

  • How about try a different computer? Also call tech support. They're very good over the phone.

  • Whenever you do a factory reset, you need to remove it from bluetooth on your phone. Failing to do that means it will try to use the old data to pair and that will fail.
