Intensity Minutes: Multiple Devices

When I wear my Fenix 5 watch for any activity the intensity minutes are logged on the Connect app and show. But if go for a ride and track it with my Edge 530 the intensity minutes from the ride dont seem to add onto the connect app meaning I'm not reaching my target or measuring intensity for those rides.

  • I also use an Edge (130 Plus) for cycling. I get my intensity minutes from VA3. If I don't wear the VA3, it's as if Intensity minutes don't exist. When I return from my ride, I sync the Edge and even though I didn't start an activity on my VA3, Intensity minutes appear only after I sync my VA3.

  • Your VA3 is probably set as your 'preferred activity tracker'. Then the data from your VA3 will always trump other devices when data is recorded at the same time. This should avoid the same data is being counted more than once.

Then it also seems logic that Garmin Connect is waiting for the next sync with your VA3 (the preferred activity tracker) to determine the intensity minutes of that day, ignoring the intensity minutes from the Edge.

  • Considering that the Edge doesn't count steps, it seems like the Edge should never be set as the primary tracker except in very unique circumstances. In my case, TrueUp will use the steps from my non-primary activity tracker so it seems to me that the Edge's stats would be used if it calculated Intensity minutes and the Fenix 5 isn't worn.

I can't say for sure since my Edge is the 130 Plus so I can't test it out.

  • I am seeing the same problem. Intensity minutes always count when doing an activity with my Fenix6, but when I use my Edge 530, I get zero intensity minutes.

Have you contacted Garmin support?  If so, have they provided you an answer that worked?

  • I spoke to support and it seems the Edge products don't track intensity minutes and that's why they don't merge, For everything else just ensure that TrueUp is enabled on the settings within the connect app for them all.
