Golf app problems

Question Re: Golf on vivoactive 3. For the past number of golf seasons I have downloaded three golf courses that are my most visited. And they have worked OK but the yardage seems off. However, whenever I travel to another course, I delete my previous 3 courses from my garmin connect and upload the new course. But when I arrive at the course and activate my app with the satellite the three old courses appear. Even though I deleted them from my connect app. My question is …. How do I delete the three courses from my watch? I have restarted both my phone and my watch

  • Ah, a known issue. The problem is that deleting them actually leaves them on the watch and it can only hold 5. The trick is to delete the courses through the PC/MAC drive. Go to the watch primary and then \Garmin\Golf. Delete the courses there and then load new ones. I reported the issue a while ago (nothing happened of course since Garmin sells devices and does not care too much on functionality) and I have met a lot of golfers that are frustrated by the same thing. Fortunately deleting them by the usb drive works although you cannot easily see which ones are the ones you would like to keep. I delete all before a holiday and load them anew. Oh, funny thing is that you see the new course when the phone is still connected, but it will not see the course when it disconnects (imagine me cursing politely on the golf course when I was sure I loaded a new one and verified it in close proximity of the phone).

  • Thanks for your response. My golf game needs all the help It can get. I actually don’t have Garmin on my iPhone but on my iPad. I never take my iPad to the course but I found having it on my phone soaks up my battery. I’m a little computer challenged so could you please describe how to delete the courses, sorry but all I use is iPad so I’m not sure how this would work.

  • I do not think you can do it on a iPad unfortunately. You need something that can use the USB interface and be a 'host' for USB drives. As far as I know the iPAD does not work that way, but maybe someone owning an iPAD on  the forum can confirm if it is possible to open the watch as a USB drive. i found some references for iPAD, but I cannot guarantee that this would work with Garmin devices. Just ask a friendly neighbor to connect a PC or Mac with the USB cable and delete the files in /Garmin/Golf ;-).

So for clarity, you have downloaded golf courses in Garmin Connect and when the watch is connected through bluetooth you can download them to the watch. When you delete courses in Garmin Connect, they are NOT deleted from the watch. This means you see different courses when the watch is connected and when it is disconnected. Since the courses are still on the watch, you see the first 5 that you ever downloaded and nothing will change when adding other courses. The only way to solve that is to delete them from the watch by other means than the connect app, so in my case connecting USB to to the watch and PC and deleting all in the \Garmin\Golf directory and start from scratch.

  • Interesting I have an issue with my Pixel 2 phone in that I have to restart the phone each time I get to the course before any courses appear to select on the vivioactive watch. Will be interested to see if your fix works to cure my issue
