Vivoactive 3 Lap Button Instead of Screen Tap

Hi Everyone,

I've looked around the settings and in the manual and I can't tell if there is a way to swap the function of the button and the double-tap screen feature during an activity.

I find the double-tap to mark a lap very finicky and doesn't always work the first time, especially when you're finishing a hard interval and are exhausted. I often find it takes me up to 5 tries to get it to register properly and by then 5-10 seconds has elapsed. When shooting for PRs etc. this gets annoying. When it's raining and the watch is wet, it's even worse.

I think it would be great to swap the functionality of the button and the double-tap screen. This way you can just press the button for a lap and double-tap the screen to pause the workout. Most often I'm pausing the workout at the end of a rest interval so it's very easy to double-tap it then and any issues with finicky-ness will be lessened since I'm more often stopping the workout after a less important interval.

Is there anyway to do this currently? If not, Garmin should look at this. I assume it would be possible via software updates.

Thanks,

  • The Vivoactive 3 series is classed by Garmin as a "Previous Model" i.e. it's been superseded. Firmware updates to change functionality are highly unlikely to appear.

  • Rather than double tapping, if you are on the screen showing the workout step there is an arrow at the bottom - you can tap the arrow once to advance!  On this screen the double tap doesn’t seem to work reliably but is somewhat better if done on another screen ( ie one showing your data).

    Hope this insight helps

  • It seems that the double tap is registered with a motion sensor rather than the screen. Try tapping it with your nail instead of the fingertip.
