Significant battery drain for Vivoactive 3 after 7.70 firmware update

I am not sure when exactly my Vivoactive 3 updated to version 7.70. But it was sometime recently. And for the last few days I am noticing that the battery life of my Vivoactive 3 has gone down significantly! I am only getting about 1 day of battery life on a full charge, sometimes even less than 24 hours!

My watch is more than 2.5 years old and when I measured my battery life a month or two ago, I was easily getting more than 5 days on a full charge with heart rate measurement on. And I believe I was getting around 5 days on a full charge even a few weeks ago. But this week I am suddenly noticing less than a day of battery! I am very upset with this sudden and massive decrease in battery life. Looking at the forums here, it seems like many people are experiencing poor battery life with the latest update. I am very disappointed with Garmin for this poor quality update and I really hope they fix it so that my watch is usable again! It is such a great device and I am upset that bad software updates may be causing such massive problems! Please fix it!

  • I am having the same issue.  1st noticed battery life reduced from 5-6 days to 4 about a month ago when my Bluetooth connection kept connecting and disconnecting; updating garmin connect on my phone and a soft reset seemed to fix that and was back to usually 5 days between charges.  Then suddenly a week ago I was back to 4 days which has rapidly dropped to at most 36 hours!  This is very frustrating, I’ve already had the same thing happen on 2 previous watches.  I have reset to factory defaults twice and have no IQ apps or widgets on my watch.  My family has bought 9 garmin watches over the years and I am disgusted by the lack of longevity for this watch because they can’t manage updates without causing battery draw.

  • Add another one to the list... I'm seeing an intermittent overnight total battery drain from 100% after I charge up in the evening to shut down (~1%) when I wake up in the morning. Not happening every day, but has happened a few times since 7.70

  • Same problem here, with my wife's vivoactive 3, 2 years old. The battery drain in about 12 hours, using it as a normal smartwatch (no sports activities), then it signals the 'Low Battery'. Putting it in charge, the battery is immediately signaled at about 85% and after 20 minutes it is already at 100%. In reality after a couple of hours it is empty again.
I have already tried to reset the clock, update it, clean the contacts, use another cable (fenix 5) and another charger but without success.
My old Fenix 3 after 4 years, with very intense sports use, still had a battery life of over two days. My wife does not play sports and uses the watch only as a smartwatch.
It is a software issue because before the latest update the watch it can live more then 4 days without recharging

  • I have the same charge issue. It is full within almost seconds. That's why I assume it is a battery issue. A friend of mine also have a vivoactive 3 an has no problem with the latest firmware.

But if a battery can't last 2 to 3 years with minimal charging it is watch to expansive. If my calculations are right I only charged the watch 250 to 300 times at a max.

  • Had my VA3 for just a year. When using it in activity mode for long distance walking I’m getting 6 hours out of it. Nowhere near the 13 hours that’s advertised.

  • Hey Amber ... I am having the same problem. I am located in Qld Australia.

  • Hello! If you have removed the CIQ apps and reset the device to defaults and are still experiencing battery drain, we would like for you to reach out to your local Garmin Support. Thank you.
