Significant battery drain for Vivoactive 3 after 7.70 firmware update

I am not sure when exactly my Vivoactive 3 updated to version 7.70. But it was sometime recently. And for the last few days I am noticing that the battery life of my Vivoactive 3 has gone down significantly! I am only getting about 1 day of battery life on a full charge, sometimes even less than 24 hours!

My watch is more than 2.5 years old and when I measured my battery life a month or two ago, I was easily getting more than 5 days on a full charge with heart rate measurement on. And I believe I was getting around 5 days on a full charge even a few weeks ago. But this week I am suddenly noticing less than a day of battery! I am very upset with this sudden and massive decrease in battery life. Looking at the forums here, it seems like many people are experiencing poor battery life with the latest update. I am very disappointed with Garmin for this poor quality update and I really hope they fix it so that my watch is usable again! It is such a great device and I am upset that bad software updates may be causing such massive problems! Please fix it!

  • I found this thread today. I am also experiencing rapid battery drain on my Vivoactive 3. Can Garmin provide any update on progress to a fix?

  • same issue for me. only 3y old. I used to charge every few days but after update ard 2mths back, the battery just drop within a day. please help

  • Same with me. Tried 7.72 beta, same battery drain issue, I have tried reset to factory defaults, soft reset.. nothing helps. My vivoactive 3 consumes now 2% per hour which is way worse than before. This is a firmware issue and needs to be addressed and fixed and not ignored

  • Im having the same issue as everyone on here. No idea where to go from here but not happy that it appears that an "upgrade" has rendered my watch all but useless. Heres what i tried/failed with along with a brief run down of the drain:

    1. Reset watch to defaults
    2. Removed Connect IQ from phone
    3. Removed device from Garmin Connect app
    4. Deleted Watch from Bluetooth (Iphone XS IOS 14.4.2)
    5. Uninstalled Garmin Express from Windows Laptop
    6. Cleaned up files from Windows laptop
    7. Fresh Install of Garmin Express on laptop
    8. Connected Watch to laptop
    9. Sync Complete

Havent re-connected to phone, wanted to see if the lack of notifications etc made any difference to battery life.

Hadnt fully charged the watch, all of the above completed at 12:15 with charge at 48%
    14:15 28%
    16:05 15%
    17:15 9%
    18:20 2%
    19:46 0%
    19:55 - RIP

    Full Re-charge started 20:13
    Left on Charge until 21:50
    22:45 90%
    08:10 34%
    10:06 18%

NB No activities etc, watch completely left alone with all defaults.

  • FYI, There is an app called Battery info which will give you battery consumption... 50% a day... what a bummer

  • Same here. Battery drain is a couple of percentages a few minutes. it is now down to 25% in three hours.
My watch is now about three years old and I could always use it for around 4 to 5 days. Now it won't last me a day.

  • I have literally gone from 100% charge at 07:00am to 2% right now (12:00) ... that is 5 hours!!!! - watch is 2.5 years old. and that is with the sensor not working either. Something is seriously wrong.

  • Ive just installed the battery app, painful to watch it basically tick down. 50% is a dream, mine looks more like a countdown, currently showing as over 20%/h

  • I've just installed the beta 7.72 to see if that help since some people seem to have good results with this.
    Unfortunately not at my side.
I factory reset my watch. Turned off al automatic functions. Only get notifications from a few apps like whatsapp and have the hart rate sensor on.

In one hour battery life went down with 18%
