Significant battery drain for Vivoactive 3 after 7.70 firmware update

I am not sure when exactly my Vivoactive 3 updated to version 7.70. But it was sometime recently. And for the last few days I am noticing that the battery life of my Vivoactive 3 has gone down significantly! I am only getting about 1 day of battery life on a full charge, sometimes even less than 24 hours!

My watch is more than 2.5 years old and when I measured my battery life a month or two ago, I was easily getting more than 5 days on a full charge with heart rate measurement on. And I believe I was getting around 5 days on a full charge even a few weeks ago. But this week I am suddenly noticing less than a day of battery! I am very upset with this sudden and massive decrease in battery life. Looking at the forums here, it seems like many people are experiencing poor battery life with the latest update. I am very disappointed with Garmin for this poor quality update and I really hope they fix it so that my watch is usable again! It is such a great device and I am upset that bad software updates may be causing such massive problems! Please fix it!

  • Hello! Are you located in the US or CAD? If not, I encourage you to reach out to your local support. If you need that contact information please let me know!

  • Thanks Amber, I am in Ukraine. I have a shipping address in US though. I applied to support in UK and was offered a refurbished piece for 90 GBP if i remember correctly and it was not the solution I hoped for.

  • Hey, I am glad you were able to be in touch with the UK support, I will need you to follow through with them to have this resolved.
  • Hey Amber ... I am having the same problem. I am located in Singapore

  • Hey there! The number to reach in Singapore 800-8861-072.

  • I can't see how this issue, that is clearly affecting a large group of users, is being solved by each having to contact local support, this is clearly an issue that has been introduced by a firmware update. my 3 year old watch was working fine, lasting 5-7 days prior to the latest firmware. I have no interest in paying for a replacement, in fact I doubt very much that would fly as a solution under Australian Consumer Law (my location).

I have been patiently waiting for a firmware update to resolve this, but I am quickly loosing faith that Garmin is even working on one.

I am a long term Garmin users and as with many others I was close to looking at a replacement for my VA3, my 4th Garmin Watch, along with 3 Garmin Edge Devices and a couple of GPS units back in the day.

If this is the best response we can expect I will be strongly considering other brands for my next watch.

  • Totally agree with this. I use my VA3 daily for running, walking and yoga, and love it. However, Garmin is a huge organisation and I’d hope they’d do something pretty quickly to address this major issue.

Mine experienced a 30% drain after an hour’s dog walk yesterday. Today I’m running and dog walking and I shouldn’t need to have to charge it up before that with 70% available, but I simply don’t trust it.

Come on Garmin. Please do something to help us.

I’m in the UK by the way.

  • FYI installed Beta 7.72 posted at the top of the VA3 forum. Doesn't seem to help battery life. Drained 35% overnight.

  • Thanks for the info. Doesn’t sound like it’s done much good though. Frowning2

  • I have the same problem with my watch 2.5 years old. Without activities, the battery lasts less than 20hours. I am from France so I contact the french garmin support. First they proposed me a complete reinit of the watch => no change. An update through WebUpdater tool => Update of the GPS version => No change. I recall them and they proposed a return to the SAV but it is not free of charge.

I will contact a customer protection association. It is not acceptable, it is like sheduled obsolescence. It has been more than 3 months since the update and there is no answer for garmin, like if garmin was not working on it, just waiting we buy a new garmin watch. May be I will buy a new watch but not a garmin one.
