Significant battery drain for Vivoactive 3 after 7.70 firmware update

I am not sure when exactly my Vivoactive 3 updated to version 7.70. But it was sometime recently. And for the last few days I am noticing that the battery life of my Vivoactive 3 has gone down significantly! I am only getting about 1 day of battery life on a full charge, sometimes even less than 24 hours!

My watch is more than 2.5 years old and when I measured my battery life a month or two ago, I was easily getting more than 5 days on a full charge with heart rate measurement on. And I believe I was getting around 5 days on a full charge even a few weeks ago. But this week I am suddenly noticing less than a day of battery! I am very upset with this sudden and massive decrease in battery life. Looking at the forums here, it seems like many people are experiencing poor battery life with the latest update. I am very disappointed with Garmin for this poor quality update and I really hope they fix it so that my watch is usable again! It is such a great device and I am upset that bad software updates may be causing such massive problems! Please fix it!

  • I have the same issue with my 2 year old Viviactive 3. Very fast battery drain that started recently. I am in the US and I would greatly appreciate your help fixing it

  • I had an interesting thing happen - I always turn off my watch during the night, yesterday I did that when the battery was at 100%, when I turned it on this morning, the battery was at 85%!
    How is that possible?

  • AmberD, thanks for staying up with this issue. Currently this topic has 133 posts, the vast majority with the fast draining battery issue. This number of posts is about 6 times the number of any other issue in this part of the forum. And I assume those posting are just a fraction of users as most don't go online to a forum to find tech support. A couple of comments/questions.

    1. I have yet to see that Garmin has acknowledged this is a widespread problem.

    2. Despite the large number of posts there is no mention that the issue is in the process of being resolved.

    3. There has been no mention of a timeframe for a software update to attempt to fix the issue.

How long are we expected to wait for a simple confirmation that it is a widespread problem, and that Garmin is ACTIVELY working on a solution?

Having to charge my watch twice a day, when it used to go 4 to 5 days is not a solution.

If this forum is not an appropriate place to raise the issue, and seek resolution can you please let me know what channel is best to have Garmin take action?

  • I have a Samsung Note10 and a few days ago I removed Garmin Connect and Connect IQ; I added Connect back (V 4.42); left IQ off and factory reset my Vivoactive 3 (SW v 7.70 / GPS v 2.50) -  reconnected everything and (so far) my battery life is back to "normal"

  • I am using a Note 20. Hadn't thought of the Connect IQ app. At this point I'll try anything and will delete the apps, reboot and reinstall Connect only. Fingers crossed. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Hello! We are doing our best to reach out to everyone individually. If you are not in the US or CAD we encourage you to reach out to your local support if you need the contact information please let me know.

  • No problem! I will get an email over to you!

  • Tried the removal of android apps, adding back only Connect (not ConnectIQ). No change. Battery drained 34% in 8 hours overnight. No activities, no GPS, no backlight just sleep.

  • Also having the same problem still. Have tried the recommended hard reset, still the same result. Would like to hear from support on a resolution.
