My Vivoactive 3 is continuously disconnecting/connecting from/to phone. It has only started happening the past few weeks and I noticed it seemed to start happening after the latest software update.

I have done a factory reset on my watch, uninstalled garmin connect and IQ store, unpaired the watch from my phone and started from scratch yet it is still happening. I'll be sitting next to my phone and receive a notification on my phone but nothing on my watch due to it not being connected.

My watch is on software version 7.6. GPS version 2.5 TSC version 2.1, Sensor version 6.6, WHR version 20.03.31, Connect IQ 3.1.9

I'm becoming very frustrated with my watch not being connected when I'm right next to my phone or only a few meters away.
I have a Samsung A71 5G phone.

Hello! Sorry to hear that the watch is acting this way. Does the watch say "Disconnected" in the Garmin Connect App when it does this and "Connected" in the Bluetooth settings of your Samsung? Are you still able to manually sync information on the app?

  • When I unlock my phone and open the app it always has a green dot and will then sync. It will sync automatically and have up to date information in the connect app, however when my phone is off for a few minutes my watch will disconnect from my phone and no longer display the bluetooth symbol on my watch.
My watch did another update last night to version 7.70 but there has been no difference in connection with my phone.
I mostly use this watch now for the notifications that I receive whilst I am at work and not near my phone, however that doesn't seem to be working anymore.

  • Hi, you should check following:

    - Android power save deactivated for Garmin Connect app

    - GPS activated in general and for Garmin Connect app (GPS to be activated, other methods are not sufficient to get stabel connections)

    - Are all access rights granted to Garmin Connect app

Android updated sometimes changing some settings or there are another config possibilities with new Android versions ...

  • I have allowed the connect app to run in the background. The button is selected to on (I had to allow it to be optimised to allow it to run in the background)

I can't find an option for GPS in settings (I have searched GPS) but all location services are turned on as that is what comes up when I search GPS

All app requests are grants for connect

I've turned off adaptive power saving on my battery settings and it is set to optimised (only other options are medium and maximum power saving)

Okay, Can I have you open your phone settings, tap APPS > tap Connect > Scroll to the bottom of that screen and look for two settings: Appear On Top (or Draw Over Other Apps) and Change or Modify System Settings. If either of these are disabled, please turn them on. IF both are disabled, please remove the watch from the Bluetooth menu, restore the watch to defaults, and then reconnect from the Garmin Connect app. Let me know if you are still experiencing this issue after this.

  • They're both already enabled

  • Okay, thank you for that screenshot. Inside the permissions tap, is Location switched to "Allow all the time"? If not, please make sure that is also on. Do you currently have the Bluetooth connected alert enabled on your watch too? If so, please disable it temporarily.

  • Yes location is set to allow all the time. I have never had bluetooth connected alert enabled until I started having problems with my watch not connecting so I turned it on to see how often and quickly it was disconnecting from my phone. I turned it off after doing a factory reset on my watch and found having it off made no difference.

Do you have Wi-Fi turned on, on your phone? If so, could I have you test turning it off for a while and see if you continue to have connection issues with the phone and watch?

  • I have tried turning WiFi off for a few days now and haven't seen any noticeable difference. I'm still finding it not connecting or sending notifications to my watch when I'm sitting next to my phone.
