Battery died in less than an hour after update to 7.4??!!!

It is safe to say that I am FUMING. I was already suspicious of the impact on battery endurance after the update to software version 7.4, but this is serious. Today I visited my local pool for my first swim since March, and the watch died just 3 minutes after starting the activity - having removed it from the charger less than an hour earlier. Now admittedly I do not recall what the battery state was when I took it off the charger, but I have used this kit for 18 months without missing a beat. I feel an urgent rollback to 7.3 coming on.

  • I'm on 7.4 and I havent any batter issues, so far. I would suggest without knowing your battery percentage before starting the swim you shouldnt "fume" at this point. Perhaps carry out another test from a full charge, at this point we don't know if the fault is with the watch or if the battery was merely at a low charge point when you started your swim.

    Hi,

Me too, i experience the same battery issues with my vivoactive 3, after the updated the battery is drain after 4-5hour after a full charge, left on the table.

after i went to the service centre i was told to factory reset the watch, which now able to last for 7 hour with every feature turn off, if i used if for my run, the battery will be drain within 1 hour.

will  be great if Garmin is about to provide option to roll back to 7.3.

Mine too. First a charge would only last 4 hour. Mine is 18 months old too. So I did a reset, seemed to be better but back to heavy drain again. I also gave up on spotify would not play freeze when I hit play reinstall load music slowly and would work again. Now I'm uploading music from itune directly was working again now watch totally freezes when I hit play I have to reboot watch. I think it may be because I don't hit stop music before I turn off my headphone, anyone else have this problem? Wasted a lot of time trying to get this watch to work.

  • Hi

After update 7.4 battery is drain from 100% to 0% in few hours.

  • My experience with the VA3 since the 7.40 firmware is no different than previous firmware deployments and that is lasting  between 3/4 with all the tracking sensors enabled.

Granted I use minimal GPS tracked activities but that is no different to how I have always used the watch since March 2019.

  • Mine was charged to 100% late last night, about 11 hours later I happened to look at it to see that it was rebooting and came up at 1%.

  • seems like this is a pretty widespread issue judging from the forums. the silence from garmin on this is really pissing me off. At least acknowledge that there is an issue

  • Did you report it to Garmin Support ? They don't actually follow the forum closely.

    Garmin Support : https://support.garmin.com/en-GB/?productID=571520&tab=topics

  • I'm having a very frustrating chat conversation with Garmin who say this hasn't been reported and that I need to get a replacement watch from them.

They are telling me there is an issue with the hardware.  I'm not sure there can be for a 2 and a half year old watch, it would have happened before surely?  I'll keep charging it up a couple of times a day rather than be without a watch for 10 days - I expect them to have fixed the software by then, as long as everyone reports it!

    Hi ,

how do you report it to garmin support? i believe most of us here had the watch for more than a year which is over the warranty period.

and the support link share is just a user guide or faq of the product.
