Vivoactive 3 doesn't register steps....

My Vivoactive 3 doesn't accurately measure steps when mowing, pushing a stroller or a shopping cart. As a comparison, I wore my Fitbit Surge on my other hand while mowing - the Fitbit registered approximately 10,000 steps, my Garmin measured 2,000 (I have a large yard, over 3 acres). The same thing happens when pushing a stroller or a shopping cart.  My guess is the hand position, but the Fitbit does register when pushing those devices.

  • Some of my old FitBit peeps talked about wearing the device on their ANKLE leading to more accurate step counts.  So I suggest you try doing that with your Garmin.  Also be sure you've set your Garmin up for your gender, height, etc.  I've never paid much attention to step counts myself, so I don't know how the two devices compared for me, sorry.

  • Pushing a stroller, etc. dampens the vibration necessary to register a step.  I typically try to push a shopping cart with my other hand. Mowing a lawn would be tough but the ankle or even belt or pants pocket should work well.

Another option is buy a foot pod but I'd try the other options before spending the money.

BTW, Fitbit is known to be prone to counting false positives.
