Accidentally Discarded Activity

I finished up a run tonight and accidentally must have hit 'discard' in my exhausted state rather than save. I connected my watch to my PC and found the file in "records" but no activites. I can't upload it to Connect. I tried using a third party site to "fix" the file with no luck.

Has anyone successfully salvaged a discarded run?

I appreciate your help!

  • Thanks @4567890. I have the medal to prove it, but would love to see the statistics. I do have the option in settings to change the USB type to "Garmin" from "MTP" but still don't see it. Any advice is welcome. But, I'll also reach out to Garmin Support. Would love an auto-save feature and/or a change to their save behavior.

  • Below is the current response from Garmin through their support chat. I've connected to the computer, but the activity does not show in the Activities folder - corrupt or not. When asked about a "discarded" activity, the rep suggests that "If the activity was not saved then it has been permanently removed from the device. You will still be able to see the heart rate and movement data on your Garmin Connect dashboard, but the activity and its graphs and maps will not be available."

Would you download and connect to Garmin Express? Try to recover the discarded activity another way? I'm losing hope.

    Rep's explanation of Garmin Express:

    -----------------------------

Ok Garmin Express is our computer application that forces all data off of the watch, if the file is uncorrupted on the device then it will take it off. And no, once a file is corrupted it will be removed. Here are the steps to sync with Garmin Express:

    Garmin Express:

    1. Install Garmin Express on your Computer – How to download Garmin Express
    2. Launch Garmin Express
    3. Plug your watch into the computer's USB port using the appropriate charging cable
    4. Click +Add Device
    5. Once the computer recognizes the device, confirm you want to Add this Device
    6. Sign In or Create an Account
    7. Follow the on-screen pairing instructions
    8. Setup Complete
    9. Confirm it shows 'You Are Up-To-Date!"
    10. Disconnect the device from the computer and allow the watch to finish the install
    11. Once the watch is done i
  • So, all hope of recovering a discarded activity is lost? I lost one due to the stupid touchscreen. I just paused an activity and accidental touches must have triggered the activity to be deleted. As @APAIM wrote, the recovery software do not offer to access the activity folder on the VA3m. Such a shame. If anyone has a solution, please share. @Garmin you ought to to better with auto save or something similar. If someone is so keen to delete, he/she/it could still do it manually afterwards.

  • Was this recovered? And if yes, how?

  • Garmin: this is the DUMBEST feature ever!!!!! Why would I want to discard an activity?!?!!!!

If I really need to, I can do it from the app. NOT the watch!!!!!

Save everything from the watch by default! Rage

  • Same issue, except I'm the one showering my watch with how sweaty I get running. Usually an issue if I'm in the rain. Activity will be paused, and as I'm rolling my sleeve up I delete my activity.

It doesn't strike me as that difficult for Garmin to add an extra complication to delete the activity while you're paused. I don't want to waste my time recovering my activity, I just want my watch to not delete things while I'm trying to restart or save my activity.

I've deleted my activity on accident at the end of a run too.
