VA3 - Calories seem low compared to other users in the gym

I am confused about my calories being counted in my classes.

Today I did a 1 hour class that was 50/50 Cardio and bar bells yet I only burned 287 - the instructor burned 788.

Have I set up something wrong or missing something?

  • Calories are based on heartrate and unfortunately Garmin has been ignoring complaints on the device not registering correctly for (mostly) the first ten minutes of an activity.  If you start an activity the heartrate sensor switches to measure constantly (green light constant on instead of blinking) but fails to do that correctly for the first 10 minutes. You can find more on this in the other posts in the forum.

  • Garmin has replaced the Pulse Sensor from the 2.5 years old VA3 with all new devices like Vivoactive 4 and it works much better than in VA3. It is a big improvement and i am very happy with the new heart rate data...

Mines only 1 year old and my fitbit was better for calories

  • It is a software issue I think since it was working fine on an older version of the software. I have a Va3 Music and it actually performs a lot worse now than a 10 dollar chinese thingy. It was fine when I bought it, but 2 *cough* updates later it is worthless for workouts.
