Garmin Pay not working

Recently my Garmin Pay stopped working. The watch does recognize the card, and I can enter the pin code on the watch, after which the watch tells me "Hold near reader". When I do so, the reader does not respond to the watch. I noticed this only after a workout (brought no phone / wallet) so it was quite embarrasing.

The watch runs on SW 7.20, GPS 0.00, TSC 2.10, Sensor 6.60, WHR 20.03.21, Connect IQ 3.1.6. Battery was > 30% during multiple attempts. In between the attempts, I have tried a hard reset of the watch, which did not solve the problem.

I have already contacted my bank whether the issue is bank related or Garmin related, but I'd hope to gain more information from here as well.

  • Hi, Same. Have been using Garmin Pay for some time. Previously I have had issues with card being deactivated by watch. But this time - the card is there - i can type my pin - i see the card on the screen - the connection symbol flashes ........ but nothing happens on the terminal. Have tried several terminals (which worked with my contactless card). Turned the watch off and on - no change. I was going to try a hard reset - but after your observation - maybe not

  • The watch holds an NFC chip that interacts with the payment terminal. If the terminal does not respond it is probable that it does not contain a viable card (it can be broken or un-powered of course). I am not sure how they have written the SW, you might see a card when the chip is empty perhaps.  You can try to delete the card and re-enrol since then a new card is sent to the nfc chip.

  • #MeToo

I´m using Garmin pay quite often for small purchases. Lately my card disappeared on my watch and connect. After restarting the smartphone and sync. with Connect Mobile for Android, it was back again.
Tried to pay with it yesterday and nothing happens. The reader did not find the watch and the watch itself did not vibrate as a confirmation.

Had to pay the "classic" way.

Useless feature, when you cant trust it anymore!

  • Next attempt yesterday:

The watch will just not be recognized. Using a regular ec-card wireless, worked immediately.

  • That happened to me a few months ago. The only way I was able to fix it was to remove my VA3 from GCM and then re-pair it.

  • Which would include setting everything up, again Rage

The card is already on my watch. I just not work!

Now, I deactivated it, synch, activated it again and see what happens tomorrow.

  • True but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet. In my case, the credit card was was on my but the NFC chip wasn't working.

In my case, setting up one device again actually was relatively quick and painless.

  • Actually the NFC chip is the only place for the actual 'card', what you see in the companion app or the watch is apparently out of sync with the content of the NFC chip.

  • As a final step I have also tried to completely remove and reconfigure my card, after which I could successfully pay with my watch during the past days (still SW 7.20).
