I’m unable to stop any activity on my watch

I’m unable to stop any activity on my VA3, the ‘done’ button just wont respond.

I have performed a factory reset on the device & it still is unable to register my activity.

A similar problem/symptom exists for the stopwatch. Whilst I am able to stop an activity using the button, the watch face ‘button’ doesn’t work.

it seems to be ok when I goto the settings menu the screen responds fine. Having since reset the device I am unable to get past the factories choice as the ‘Done’ button will not work.

The watch is not cold, nor has the screen been damaged in anyway.

Any ideas?

  • Time to contact Garmin Support!

  • Having this exact issue now. Did you manage to resolve it?

  • From the description, sounds like a hardware issue that only Garmin Support would be able to address. Possibly a warranty replacement, depending on purchase date.

However, assuming all the buttons are functional, there's a chance that a factory reset could fix this, which you can do without contacting support. How to Reset or Restart Garmin Vivoactive 3 - Factory Reset

  • Thanks for the quick reply.

I have indeed done a full factory reset and deleted all the data.

Also checked it is up to date: Version 5.80.

Shame if its broken as I doubt I have the box/warranty.

  • Call Garmin Support regardless. They have the best shot at helping you resolve this. I've sent watches back under warranty before. They never want the box.

  • Yes hardware fault. Log with Garmin, I got a replacement sent out. Not too difficult a process, but just took a while.

  • Hardware fault. Had to log a Garmin RMA. Not a bad process just time consuming.

  • Thank you for the excellent question and how you worked around it.   What you describe is exactly the problem I'm having with my watch.  After an activity I press the physical button on the side of the watch, and it pauses the activity giving me a brief summary.  If I try to push the done button on the screen and nothing happens.  The problem I have with your solution is the Done button is just a computer coded switch that uses the touch screen.  The workaround I've found involves letting the battery run out completely,  then restart it.  It doesn't always work but usually aft4er a few tries I get it to come up, the activity gets saved in the interim.  I've also noticed even though the done button doesn't respond the touch screen still works and one can select other things, just not that done button.   My tests have led me to believe it is a software issue, with 99.9999% accuracy.  Now it may be Garmin doesn't want to release a new bios for a vivoactive 3, and it's easier for them to just replace those watches of the few customers who complain, but most people likely just buy another watch, and they rely on you being familiar with their Connect software and and bet that most suckers will just buy the new model instead.  All that said, they shouldn't lie about it and call it a hardware problem.   To be honest I abhor working with customer service at any company, so I am going to keep searching for a better solution.
