Vivoactive 3 doesn’t show heart rate when external heart rate belt connected

Hi everyone.

Has anyone some idea why my vivoactive 3 doesn’t show heart rate, when external heart rate belt is connected? When pairing with the belt,it connects without issues, and even when starting activity, it shows up  “external hr connected” but no heart rate is showing in watch.

Belt is working fine when syncing to my phone, so there shouldn’t be any issues with fitting or belt itself :/

I have similar issue with VivoActive3 Music + Adidas miCoach_X_Cell belt

  • What firmware version do you have on the va3 (7.20 is the latest)

    What HRM are you using?

Could the battery be low in the HRM?

I just tried with an HRM-Run, and it was fine.

  • Did you find a solution? I have a similar problem - H7 paired but no HR data on screens or in recorded activity.

  • Yeah - you may have the same situation as me.

Don't expect the external heart rate monitor to automagically provide HR info - it won't.

Choose an activity (running, biking, etc.) and the external HR monitor will work.

Weird, I know, but this is what I found.

  • Also what I have found, that my bike computer (Edge 1030 paired with a HR strap) combines the HR from there and the activity minutes/stress/steps/elevation from VA3. If I would turn on the activity=biking the GC doubles the data (for this same reason VA3 is off)

  • So when I start an activity (running in my case) I get the device connected message but no HR data. Is there a magic step that I have missed out?

I got this answer from garmin support:

“It seems the Heart Rate when paired to a HRM will not show your current HR via the Data Fields. The HRM will record the HR and then display it in the Activity afterwards. But viewing the current HR is only possibly with the Wrist HR. This is by design i'm afraid”

  • Try to turn off the wrist HR on the watch when you use the external HR strap.

  • That is not correct.  When you start an activity and have a connected external HR strap then that is the value which shows on the watch activity data field.  When no activity is in use the watch will only show the watches OHR value.  That is how it works in practice and as per the manual.  If it is not showing the external Hr value during an activity it sounds like a problem with the watch or the external sensor

    Hi,

I have the same issue with my Vivoactive 3. I have it for 10 days and I am so dissapointed. Thinking of returning it.

Did you manage to resolve anything? Thank you
