After upgrading to SW v6.90 the GPS drains the battery

I have never suffered from battery drain since the last SW update v6.90.

If I start an activity that requires GPS the battery consumption is around 25-30%/h instead of 15%/h which was the typical value for all previous SW versions. Standby battery drain is fine, tough.

It is crystal clear that something is wrong, I have already reset the watch and the problem persists. After finishing an activity that requires GPS the battery level starts to grow slowly (very odd...)

I am very annoyed because Garmin do not provide a downgrade of SW for the VA3, so what do I do know? Will I have to wait months for another SW update?

Indeed, Android Garmin Connect 4.23 freezes as soon as the VA3 is connected but works smoothly when disconnected. However, previous Garmin Connect versions like 4.22.1 worked fine.

PD: In SW 6.90 Phone position injection support was added, what does it mean? Could it be the cause of the problem?

It's a fact of life Garmin is going to force the latest firmware on you and if screws up your device, they don't gove a rats rear end.

But Forerunner and Fenix devices can be manually flashed the firmware, why not the vivoactive line?

Because Garmin does not care if you are inconvenienced by their buggy, poorly tested firmware/crapware. It's that simple. You have 3 choices, Return your device for a refund if possible, stop using Garmin devices or put up with it. I choose not to give them my money.

I have been very happy with the device until SW 6.90, I want to think that it is a bug well known and sooner will be fixed

Have you contact with Garmin?

I hope they provide me with a solution sooner than later. I will post any update

Hopefully they adress it quicky. But from reading the forums and reviews on Amazon and othe replaces, it's quite apparent on any given day, Garmin puts out not very well tested firmwares nad the cutomer is stuck with no recourse until it's fixed.
