VA3M Elevation is a Joke!

After using the VA3M for six months, I'm thoroughly disgusted with the elevation data on this watch. I can run three laps and the elevation for all three laps will be significantly different.  Other than that, it's an okay watch but the elevation mess makes it pretty much useless.

  • It’s totally and utterly broken.

whats really annoying is that there is no way to turn it off so that elevations correction is done automatically when uploading activities.

  • the previous model, I mean Vivoactive HR, has additional settings in menu to calibrate the high.
Unfortunatelly (and I do not know why) the newest model VA3 has no this feature :/

Exactly!  I'm tempted to go back to my FR35 because of this.

  • This seemed to have started about 6 months or so i think, certainly dont remember it being this bad when I first got the watch.

  • Check if the port hole to the barometric sensor is clogged by something. Otherwise wash your watch regularly. I do it every day, leave the watch in water for 30 min from time to time. Have been using my VA3M for about one year, nearly perfect elevation data all the time. Unlike the previous VA3 where the barometric sensor port hole is located at the bottom (it's on the side in VA3M), thus easily blocked by sweat during the workouts. Had to replace the VA3 via RMA and switch to VA3M later because of the elevation issue.

  • Thanks will give a try, are you on the latest firmware/have you done a hard reset of the phone recently?

This was before elevation correct today:

    And after:

    This is a normal VA3 not a VA3M.

  • I've had exactly the same issue with VA3, Garmin replaced it via RMA as a faulty product. Nothing like this for the two VA3M in the family (my wife has it as well).

My theory re the VA3 was that during an activity the barometric sensor was inadequately reacting to the temperature rise due to the immediate proximity to the skin, thus reporting increasing pressure / decreasing elevation. I wasn't been able to cure it by either resets or the clean-up of port hole to the sensor.

I’m about to send my replacement VA3 off for a replacement of my replacement due to elevation gains of 5’000 ft +

I run mainly on a canal tow path! It’s beyond frustrating
