Turn off Bluetooth and wifi completely vivoactive 3 music???

Hi folks,

I have tried fitbit devices ( my wife has charge 3) but i absolutely hate the idea of keeping radiation emiting device always strapped on to my body all the time. So i went for vivomove HR that had an option of turning Bluetooth off and immediately liked its functionality so much that I ended up upgrading to vivoactive 3 HR within 5 weeks.

I loved the device and mostly kept Bluetooth and wifi off ( connectivity> phone and connectivity> wireless on off and only used to turn them on to periodically.

however yesterday I accidentally made a discovery that i could play songs through BT headphones even when Bluetooth connectivity was turned off. Alarmed with this Discovery and with wifi connectivity off, when I clicked on sync ( in connectivity) the device could get synced with my phone through wifi without asking me to turn on either Bluetooth or wifi..

I called up Garmin helpdesk and they confirmed that  for almost all Garmin watches Wifi and Bluetooth is always ON????? irrespective of whether we have kept it off or on...?? they mentioned that its by design and there is no workaround..

Has any other Garmin vivoactive 3 music user faced the same issue??

hI kindaate the idea of carrying a EMF emittor always strapped to my body without a simple option to turn it off.. any thoughts guys???

  • Faced what issue?

If you're worried about an EMF emitter, don't wear the watch.  You know it's got a Lithium based batter in it right? If that malfunctions it could burn your wrist!  The rubber can cause serious skin irritation.  The long term effects of having a green flashing LED pointed at your skin 24/7 is not well understood.  Doing exercise increase your heart rate, making you more susceptible to heart failure and DEATH.

Do you work in an office with Wifi access points? They're putting out more power than your watch is.  I hope you don't live anywhere near a mobile cell tower or any high voltage powerlines.

You do not even want to KNOW what happens when you walk thorough and airport scanner. :-)

But really, it is by design.  Almost all "smart watches" are like this I think. If you're really actually worried about it, you should get a simple stopwatch type device, with a simple battery and no CPU ticking along 24/7 emitting EMF.

  • lol thanks.. all i want is a simple way to turn wifi and Bluetooth off from vivoactive 3 music or if there is any workaround that anyone has ever tried..:)

Ik apple watch and even some samsung gear watches have a flight mode so its not by design for all smart watches

I would not worry about your watch emitting EMF: we are all going to die because of the "climate catastrophe" in 11 years, and that is well before any consequences of the electromagnetic frequencies would show up! LOL

  • On the va3, long press the button to get to controls, and turn the phone off.

You'll still be able to use the headphones, but that connection only occurs when you connect to headphones and not 24/7

Wifi is only active when it's being used, and that's generally a manual thing, like updating your play list.  It's not on most of the time as it does really impact the battery

  • Thanks Jim.. if that's the  case then I am happy..ideally if not a flight mode then this implementation makes sense.. however strangely garmin support confirmed twice that there is no way to turn off wifi and Bluetooth and these are always on..

  • I guess you haven't heard about this flesh eating bacteria that doesn't make people wait for 11 years.. Slight smile

I agree with you. It's sad to see you mocked. There is also a security concern with RF constantly broadcasting, especially in a gym with tons of these devices concentrated into one area and several places to hide a laptop used to hijack the data, like a locker.

HI, so you think bluetooth and wifi are disabled, as long you dont use something needing this function like earphones?
I also want to find a watch which does not emmit nnemf all the day...

Thw vivoactive 3 music wifi and bluetooth cannot be disabled. However, the vivosmart 4 can have it disabled. I tested the vivosmart 4 watch with a simple RF detector. When bluetooth is disabled, the device did not emit any RF. Thank you Garmin.

Garmin DOES NOT provide a way to disable bluetooth using the GUI on the watch for this particular model. However they do provide it for vivosmart 4.
