HR monitor on cardio activity

I love my garmin vivoactive music 3 but i've noticed that when doing Cardio activity for example a spinning class my HR ranges between 60-90 which seems extremely low. This lead to inaccurate calorie counting. It seems that Im not the only one with this problem. I was wondering if there is any solution to this besides using a chest wrap HR monitor.

  • The only solution I found was to wear a HR monitor

  • Try tightening the strap. When cycling I usually get the VA3's version of the heart rate to be within 10% of a chest strap HR monitor but I find that if the strap is a little loose then the difference becomes greater.

I had this today and the strap was tight on my wrist. I ended up restarting my watch and then the HR sensor came right with the correct HR. This is really frustrating and does not look like it was fixed with the last sensor update. Can someone Investigate?

  • I bought a VA3 rose gold model for my wife an she is very frustrated because she was doing Cardio Activity yesterday and the watch showed her HR like 90 and she was with 140 (jugular counting as we are physicians)... She is very upset with her second experience and i am buying a HR strap for her because she want to check calories burned with minimum error

I was having this issue too, not with spinning but with circuit training and other cardio. Someone else mentioned in another post to actually loosen the wristband as much as you can and then slide the watch up your arm as high as it can go to get better heart rates during cardio.  I have been doing this so that my watch is on my forearm and I seem to get much more consistent and accurate results. No guarantees it fixes your problem but you may want to try it.
