Manually edit distance on indoor activities before saving in the watch??

I would like to be able to manually edit distance on indoor activities in the watch, before saving to garmin connect.

Take for example a spinning session. As it is now, I have to sync the activity to garmin connect and then edit in garmin connect. But I sync my activities to runkeeper and strava, and updates on activities doesn't get synced. Ergo, I have to edit distance in 3 places which sucks.

Is there any way around this? Any app in connectIQ that lets me edit before saving? Or any solution at all? It's really annoying and should be a standard functonality for all indoor activities..

  • Unfortunately this is not possible with Connect IQ, because CIQ apps are not able to override distance recorded to the activity file in such a way that Garmin Connect will recognize it. The best they could do is record distance to a custom field which won't show up on all platforms, and which won't count for your official distance in any case.

The only way for this to happen (currently) is for Garmin to add the feature to its own built-in apps.

  • The Treadmill app is the only one that gives the option to edit (calibrate) the distance prior to saving the session.  I don't know why Garmin hasn't done the same for other indoor activities

  • The CIQ app creates an activity edit event when someone edits an activity. This event can be tracked by connected 3rd party apps like Strava.

My experience is that I can not update a running activity in Strava after I correct it in Garmin's CIQ app. It is frustrating because Strava does not give the option to update an activity that comes from the Garmin device and the edits are not being picked up by Strava.

For example, I ran 7km the other day but forgot to start the activity and only did so after the 2nd km. After the activity ended, I went in CIQ and added the missing 2km and corrected the start time. This edit was synchronized back to  Google Fit using Health Sync (the developer just updated his app to pick-up CIQ update events). But in Strava, the activity does not get updated and there is no way for me to correct it sineceStrava does not let me edit the distance of a GPS activity.
