Heart rate strap disconnecting

I am on firmware 6.2 and I tried to use just my Wahoo Tickr for heart rate (disabling wrist based measurement).

The HR is connected for a few minutes, but then it drops out and the HR disappears from the watch face. I tried it with both bluetooth and ANT+. Replaced the battery in the Wahoo.

If I go to sensor menu I can click connect and it finds it again.

Firmware problem or am I doing something wrong?

External sensors are connected only in timed activity mode (or when browsing menu). Once you go back to the watchface, the connection is dropped after a short while.

Thanks, that makes sense to conserve the battery power.

If I add the device and disable the wrist HR, will it then automatically connect when I start a timed activity?

Yes, and even if you do not disable the built-in optical sensor, the external sensor will connect and take over.
