So pleased I’m not alone with this annoying issue anc that I found this forum.
I’ve tried everything but generally have to press in different directions until hopefully s connection is made. Last night proved impossible (my 5th cable!) but wiped the contacts with GT85 (other solvents are available !) and checked each contact on the cable was free and it worked immediately!
it’s a shame Garmin can’t admit to the problem and advise to clean regularly with an appropriate solvent.
As others have indicated I’ve never had any issue with standard connectors on other pieces of tech…
