HR drops suddenly during workout

Hi,

Im using the VA3M, during workout (cardio) suddenly I see that my HR drops to No zone. It takes some time for it to measure correctly again.
?????Does anyone also has this problem?
??????
???
  • Are you sure that you are wearing it tight enough around your wrist? It bright daylight and with it worn loosely you may lose HR if enough light infiltrates/escapes the bottom of the watch where the LED's and sensors are. I've been testing this for a blog review and that can really negatively affect your HR readings.

It's worn really tight and I'm exercising in a gym. Even during spinning class where it's dark sometimes the heart rate is dropped
  • Have you tried a factory reset? Go to Settings, then System, then Reset. This seems to solve problems along these lines sometimes (for example - I had 0 floors for every day no matter what I did and the reset fixed that).

What will happen if I rest the watch? Will my activities will be deleted also? I guess my watchface will be deleted also. But most improtant are my past activites.
  • Your activities are stored on the Garmin Connect site, not yoru watch. I believe the watch faces either will restore or they will show in your list in Garmin Express and you can easily restore them - I remember it was easy to do when I reset mine.

I also conceded that the watch cannot give consistent results during high cardio activities and started using a Scosche Rhythm+ arm monitor and now I get accurate results while playing hockey. Prior to using it, my heart rate would never go above 120, no matter how tight I had my VA3M. I even shaved a small circle on my wrist hoping that would work. Now with the Scosche it is accurately showing the expected range of 110-170.

I get heart rate reading during high cardio. But suddenly it drops and after few minutes it comes back. After restoring factory settings it worked good for a while but in my last cardio workout it dropped again.
  • I think you'll find that pretty much any wrist-based HR watch isn't going to give you consistent HR logging when doing intensive cardio, just the nature of the mechanics of your wrist movement versus how the watch is losing contact. You are likely going to need an external HR monitor, I have a Garmin chest strap one as well as a Scosche Rhythm+ armband. Both work perfectly.
