Vivoactive 3 keeps dropping Bluetooth connection on Xiaomi Redmi S2

Hi

I recently got a Xiaomi Redmi S2, downloaded the garmin Connect app and setup my device and app with my vivoactive 3. Less than 5 minutes after setting everything up, I get a "phone disconnected" message. About a minute later it connects again, and then disconnects. All while the watch is right next to the phone. I've tried unpairing from the phone, restoring the watch to factory setting, reinstalling the app, toggling Bluetooth on the phone and the watch. None of these steps have made any difference.

My watch is updated to SW version 5.90.

I have only paired my phone with my car infotainment system, and it doesn't drop the connection there at all.

Has anyone else been having this issue?
  • Same here:
    Vivoactive 3 SW version 5.9
    Xiaomi mi A1
I also enabled "Device Connection aid" in the Garmin-connect app, but connection still drops and reconnect all the time
  • Same here. I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. I changed from MIUI to Pixel Experience ROM and it seemed to solve the problem.
  • After trying some suggested solutions with not much of a progress, this is what finally did the trick:

0 - Start with updated Garmin connect app, with your watch registered (do NOT un-pair it from the app)
1 - Make sure you have all your wifi network passwords and other BT devices pairing code.
    2 - Reset your WiFi & BT: "Settings->System->Advanced->Reset options->Reset Wi-Fi,mobile&Bluetooth"
3 - GarminConnect app will ask to reconnect, while a new pin should appear on your watch
4 - Go through the registration process to reconnect your watch to the app (try not to wait too much between the steps, so you don't encounter a timeout)
5 - Thats it! - the watch should NOT appear in the phone BT devices list

Connection is rock-solid for two days now, and battery drain is as expected.

  • Something is "wonky" with 5.90 and Bluetooth.
I have a VERY reliable Nexus 6P, which is my "primary sync device" for my VA3 (sort of my "mini tablet"). I pretty much only sync manually, say after an activitie(s), or sleeping.

Since 5.90, it's taking 5, 10, 15 attempts, where it gets maybe 30% along the sync (and a 2-3 minutes), and then it resets, back to 0%, and again...
When a sync does work, it takes at least several minutes, for each of those restarted syncs, I timed a couple at around 2:30-2:45/ea.

I reset my WiFi/BT settings, right away, as well as rebooting my VA3.

The re-pairing process "less than smooth", it kept going back/forth, went through 4 sets of BT security numbers, before it decided it was connected(through the APP ONLY, as it needs to be).
After the connection was there, it took almost 3 minutes to sync, and a couple more restarts.

Now that it's in-sync, it'll re-sync in maybe 10-15 seconds, as per-normal, but I bet if I try it in an hour or two, it'll be on the order of minutes again, and numerous retries.

Thank you. This seems to have done the trick. Only get disconnected 1 or 2 times a day, I can totally live with that.
