An easier way to broadcast HR

Now that we have 5.70 with HR broadcast that works (please keep it that way this time!) I think it is time to introduce a shortcut to HR broadcast.

Right now the process is:
- Go to HR widget
- Long press screen
- Heart Rate Settings
- Scroll down to Broadcast
- Tap to toggle
- Acknowledge that it will impact battery life (hey, is that really necessary?)
- Tap the green tick
[done]

Would prefer:
- Long press button
- Select HR icon
[done]
  • On the watch, long press screen, then Settings, then Sensors & Accessories, then Heart Rate/Wrist HR, then set "Broadcast in Activity" to on. After that, each time you start an activity, the HR is broadcast. This is handy if you always want to broadcast.

That assumes you want to use the watch and another device to record activity. If I do then I have two activities recorded in Garmin Connect which is annoying to say the least, and I use more watch battery.

I use jim_m_58's approach of broadcast during activity instead of just turning on Broadcast because with the straight broadcast function, that's all the watch face will do. I can't get back to the watch face or any other feature of the watch. That's absurd. To avoid the issue barrypnz is noting, I enable it to broadcast during activity, then enable a simple activity such as Bike Indoor that does not run the GPS. I can even immediately pause the activity if I care to not have it running, but that's just an optional preference. When I finish the activity on the device that is receiving the HR (my Edge 520 in this case for an outdoor ride) I then end the watch's activity and tell it to discard. No duplication of activities in Garmin Connect.

OK, this is a bit cumbersome, I'd rather just be able to turn on Broadcast when I want it, but the watch goes into stupid mode so I can't do that. A poor user interface design in my mind. Thankfully I usually use a chest strap HRM for my Edge 520, just need to use the watch HRM on rare occasions.

What would be nice in the next update would be to broadcast HR by activity as a setting. I really only use this feature when using Zwift to run indoors, and don't personally need it any other time.

No, that's not absurd. During a bike ride I see everything on my Bikecomputer, the only thing i need my watch to do, is to broadcast HR.

I disagree. Even when on a ride, there are things my watch can do that the Edge 520 can't. For example, reply to a text message, accept or reject a phone call or reply with a text, play music, ... should I go on with more ...
