vivoactive3 can only store 7 activities?

before I buy I wanted to see if the vivoactive3 holds more activity history than my original vivoactive

to my surprise, all I can find is that it only holds seven? is that for real? because even the original held ten?

that's a deal breaker if correct
  • Where are you seeing this 7 activity limitation?
  • Where are you seeing this 7 activity limitation?

every reputable reseller with the specs seems to quote from the same source:

    https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/garmin-vivoactive-3-smartwatch-17gmnuvvctv3xxxxxtch

"Memory: 7 timed activities, 14 days of activity tracking data"

in fact it even says that on buy.garmin.com but it also says that for the original vivoactive which I know mine holds 10

    https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/catalog/product/compareResult.ep?compareProduct=150767&compareProduct=571520

I'd love to hear from people who actually own and use the v3, if it will at least hold ten despite the spec and maybe even more

seems silly in 2018 on a third generation watch to only hold 10

Yes, this is correct. How often do you sync with your phone that this would be a deal breaker?

I'm curious if you remove a few unwanted widgets, freeing up some space, can you save 1-2 more activities? I keep the watch in sync with the phone, so I save them automatically, just curious.
  • That won't matter - the limit is set. Also it's the same limit if your activities are 10 minutes each or 3 hrs each.

never? don't use a smartphone, hence using a watch

what kind of $200 3rd generation device with megabytes of memory only stores 7 activities when each activity is only a few kilobytes in size

total deal breaker Garmin, what is wrong with your development process that in 2018 you think 7 activities is acceptable, 30+ would be a good start but even 100 should be easily possible

they are just tiny FIT files saved in the flash memory

used to be Garmin was the only serious option but there are many others now, time to move on

  • Not sure why you don't use a phone, but you seem to have a computer.

Load up Garmin Express and use that to sync. You may have that already, or you've not gotten any FW updates since you got the watch. With it you can save your activities and view years worth in Garmin Connect.

I can't officially speak for Garmin, but I suspect they assume that in 2018 everyone would be using a smartphone so they can utilize all of their features.
  • I will just throw in a usage case that the timed activity limit may be a deal breaker.
As the Garmin connect app requires an internet connection (unless this has changed) to sync the activity from the watch if you are traveling overseas or in areas without easy internet access even if you always have your phone you may well hit the limit.
  • Sciber you are correct GCM still requires an Internet connection to sync with your device.
